Final Fight arcade pcb hack - finally filmed it! translation request. so continuing on from this thread: http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10793&page=2&highlight=hack I wa finally able to play the game and film it (albeit in low quality with a digital camera): http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=devilredeemed I am very happy to have been able to acquire this I must say. one request I have - may be difficult to pull off what with how bad the footage is - at the begining of part 1 some writing comes on screen - must be chinese since I don't see japanese making hacks like these - can anyone translate? else I'll take a picture of it but it's a hassle. anyway - it' been a long journey to get to this stage. I'm mad about FF - 'nuff said. goodnight.
Thats one crazy hack. I was talking to some guy at work about hacks like this and he says there very common in mexico. Are you playing this on a supergun though a tv or an arcade monitor?
yeah hacks are common in Mexico for sure - same as here in Argentina. this Final Fight hack appears to be somewhat rarer than stuff like sf2 rainbow edition and the like. if you check the little bit of writing that pops up in the video entitled part 1 - you'll notice that it seems to be chinese. hence I believe that these where made by Hong Kong bootleggers. it is just an assumption though. I'm playing it on a supergun hooked up to a Hantarex videowall monitor. cabs down here are lame, had one and I'd rather not buy another in that condition. still, this is a huge, silly monitor and I think I'll get rid of it soon.
http://www.finalfight.classicgaming.gamespy.com/news.html what a mad coincidence. anyone willing to sell the board I have on my behalf on yahoo jp? lol.
No guarentee there's another guy wanting to pay that much. Instead you should dump the ROM chips with an EPROM programmer.
I saw that auction earlier and the same seller had more CPS1 hacks... like "Cadillacs and Dinosaurs" and "Warriors of Fate" all with mixed characters from other games.
awesome! any pics? mottzilla, lol. yeah I should, though I'm gonna be selling it before then - not because of this (you can check my thread on ng.com expressing my intent on selling it before coming across this - need to clear this up else I look dishonest). would be great if it did get dumped though - game is a hoot. edit http://page9.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/k48001088 absolutely awesome - would love to own that - such a cool game in the first place.
heres one on yahoo, pricey tho. http://page9.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/k52983711 seller has a shitload of haxxed CPS1 boards if you check his other auctions btw.. ed: never mind i see youve discovered it by yourself
Awesome videos, thanks for posting this contiuation! If only this could get dumped. I'd be willing to donate towards it, if such a project began.
It's easy to sell CPS1 hacks when you most likely have dumped the roms and just make as many copies as you want by gutting Street Fighter 2s. I imagine that is what he is doing.
yeah probably. got mentioned here, lol http://neo-arcadia.com/News/voir_news.php?action=voirtout that's my favourite arcade related site.
In no attempt to steal devilredeemed's thunder, I am now the owner of this Final Fight hack PCB. He sold it to me last month on the Neo-Geo.com forums, and it arrived last week. At some point in the future (possibly near), I will make videos of it, and eventually get around to dumping it (not sure when at this point, if there is someone nearby or that could come and do it here, I would be much more motivated to do it faster). I'm only posting here to let people know where it is at now, and provide more information than what devilredeemed has so far. For those wondering what the deal with this thing is, it is simply an original and official JP Final Fight board, with modified eproms. I haven't been able to find a photo of an original JP Final Fight board (only a US one), so I can't compare where the original chips were at, but I have a few other US official CPS1 boards, and this looks exactly like them. My main concern more so than what this is, is the fact that this has a suicide battery on it. I hate batteries on PCBs, and I make it a point to remove any and all that I see (reason why below). Either way, at some point in the future, I am going to have to risk doing something about it, though like I read in a previous thread that devilredeemed started and someone mentioned, most likely the protection has been defeated. None the less, I am extremely wary of this, as all it is, is changed roms (as I mentioned above). Why do I hate PCB batteries? Aside from the fact the boards die: I have a Warriors of Fate CPS1 board in the other room that I got from someone cheap, but he wanted an arm and a leg prior to seeing black fluid dripping out of it (before it was just dead, battery had not blown yet); the moment he saw that, his attitude changed immediately and he wanted it gone. The board now is going to have to be troubleshooted and pheonixed because of crap like that, not to mention stupidity of the seller. That alone is a reason to rid the world of batteries on PCBs. Cleaning one up is no fun. Just like devilredeemed mentioned earlier, I also believe that this is the work of Hong Kong bootleggers. Too many things going on here that are similar to what Street Fighter II was having done to it, prior to Turbo coming out. Just some of the differences I have noticed through playing this: The Chinese lettering that he mentioned above replaces the Capcom logo on the opening cutscene (the one after Haggar and then it switches to Cody/Guy). I have no idea what is says, probably the name of the Hong Kong group. There is no mention of Capcom on the title screen. There is no rom check like on the real board or a copyright warning. Jessica is in her bra and panties on the opening cut scene (like the JP version has), although the cut scene is in English language. The Subway is the first level on this game (2nd level in the original), and then you play the slums level. I think there may be another level switch as well, but I would have to play through an original to verify. You can play as 5 additional characters (enemy characters). On the original 3 characters, the colors to their outfits are different (Cody has yellow pants, Guy has green, and Haggar red). The 5 additional playables are also color variants from what they are in the original game; example the female hooker has white clothing and white hair. Also, some character have sprite glitches (color variants or different sprites) when you jump, because they had no jump ability as an enemy previously. The demo run shows no profiles of the 3 original characters. The game is speed hacked, meaning you can walk much faster, also some screens that previously held you back from advancing, don't hold you back, so you can end up with a lot more enemies on the screen than normal. You can actually keep up with the Cop boss, and blaze past the chandeliers in the last stage easy. Each additional character has a desperation move (activated by pressing jump and attack). You can not pick up any weapons, with any characters. All that happens is the throw it up in the air and it falls to the ground (like if you get a weapon for someone in the original version and they can't use it). You can press the start button in the middle of gameplay and switch to the next character (like in the Street Fighter II hacks). The additional characters death and attack move audio uses either Guy or Haggars voices (yes, even the female). The game supports a 3rd button that gives you a bomb attack, similar to Rolento's Grenades (defined as SUPER above your character name/score), and you get 3 of them per life (or continue?-I can't remember which). The attack will run about the length of 2 screens, and does not affect boss characters. You can be hurt by the attack if you run into it. The games demo run is kinda strange; due to the speed hack and level placement being switched, the same demo commands that are on the original are still in place, but the characters end up dying far too quickly, and it actually ends up going to a continue prompt half way through the demo. The original button presses that were in the demo are translated to counting down the continue timer faster. Basically wrong placement of character on the demo and wrong button presses at the wrong time, leads to character getting their ass kicked rather quickly. Difficulty is much harder, though it may have to do with the DIPs being set on Hard, as I have not changed them. Also, you only get 1 life per coin, once again probably a DIP issue. Timer seems to count down much slower. When you beat the game, no matter who you beat it with, you still get the same ending. I beat it with the female hooker, and when the last boss flew out the building/window, it came back to where Jessica was, and Cody, Guy and Haggar were there. There is no continue death screen where the character you are playing as is strapped to dynamite (even if you play as one of the original 3 characters). It simply does a continue countdown on the main game play screen, like if you were playing 2 players and the other character is still alive. At the end of the countdown, the whole screen goes black and white, like it would on the normal one, and the game runs demo again. There are more, but that is a large portion of them, and all I can think of off hand for now. When I go back through, and compare it to a US board, I will document everything and post it here in an edit.
Welcome to the board! The more I hear, the better it sounds. I'm guessing it is based on the HK release since the attracts are in English. I'm excited to hear you are considering dumping it and that we will see more videos soon. Bravo!
Welcome to the board and a very excellent write up on this. Can't wait to see newer video and a possible dump of this.
i played final fight hack japan today and it just reset when i cleared the room in front of the 1st elevator.(last lv) has that game been made incomplete or what? IS IT POSSIBLE TO WRAP FFH ??
If you want a translation of the boot message, you'll need to post a better picture. It's too hard to read.
