Yeah, after looking for years, I finally got one. However, it didn't come with a floppy drive or data cable, so currently it's not much use to me. I know we've got some resident copier gurus here, so I've got a simple question - would I be correct in saying that a standard 25pin-to-25pin parallel cable should work? I have a P166 here with an old-style parallel port if ECP/EPP is incompatible. I also have an Amiga if I need to use it. Other than not being able to dump or run ROMs, the SMD seems to work perfect - when I insert a cart and power it on, it tells me the proper size of the cart (up to 16Mb, anyway). For the curious, it has Magic DOS v3.3. I'd rather not go the floppy disk route unless I have to, because 2MB games won't fit on one disk and I don't want to disk swap all the time.
If the 25 pin cable is a "switchbox" cable i.e. pin 1 goes to pin 1 on the other side then yes, it should work. Not to discourage you, SMD can detect and run games from cartridge while being broken, it's not a very good indicator whether or not the device is working. PS I think I'm the only copier guy here actually
Well, good news. I got one of these cables, and have successfully run several ROMs on it, including the Sonic 2 prototype. I will test dumping a cart soon after I've soaked this in =P
