A week of not being able to post and I'm still the top poster :smt082
Regardless, my absence is explained by the fact that I have finally moved out of my parents' house, to a student campus thingie in Leiden :-D
No more 3-hour commuting each day like the past 18 months, I can now actually go to the CS department on foot in 2 minutes (but I'm too lazy so I bike there in 30 seconds). This may sound rather uninteresting to students in the US, UK, or whatever, but keep in mind that in Holland most (well, almost all) universities don't provide any form of housing for students and you have to fend for yourself, which usually implies that you have to go to shitty interviews in student flats with 35 others and then only one gets chosen... so I'm pretty happy I got rid of that shazzbot :smt1062
I took the liberty of providing you with some shitty pictures using my cell phone, if not more they provide an interesting and unique insight into the horrors of cataractic glaucoma:

Walking from the CS building to the campus (under the highway)

    View from afar

(building were first used to house immigrants, later this was no longer necessary so they were packed up and put somewhere in a field conveniently located just behind the Computer Science, Physics, math etc. buildings. The bad part is that I had urine stains on my wall)

    A view of the campus

As you can see there's no grass yet, the whole thing's been around for only 3 months so there's still a lot of stuff to be done. Going 2km into town for beer is unacceptable, that will have to be remedied ASAP :smt071

    Behold my ominous front door!

My room, unfurnished & unpainted when the picture was taken

And from the living room I have a nice view of a gigantic "Universiteit Leiden" neon sign hanging on top of the physics flat :smt082

I moved in monday, so there's still a lot of stuff to be bought/obtained/moonlight requisitioned such as a fridge, table, decent speakers for my TV, cable subscription and of course an internet connection. However I have heard that the local cable company also broadcasts Al Jazeera so there's certainly some horizon-broadening viewing to be done as soon as it's all hooked up :p

Holland looks rather... bland :). But like Assembler said, it's probably just the camera.

    Dear Anti,

Well great, you finally got a place of your own!
This won't in any way hinder your mobile job now will it? ;)

  8. Those pictures have a really creepy dystopian look to them that turns out really cool. Cellphone cams may be crap sometimes, but dammit man, they can be ART too! It's all for the ART!

BTW, you officially have a shorter walk to school than I. I can get about 15 minutes of power-walking, or 5 on bike. :-D

I envy you - I still live at home, which compared to the university is the wrong side of town! Then again, unlike most students I get free cable, free broadband, free heating, a dishwasher... only bad part's the €250 a year on bus passes! I should get a bike -_-

the Apocalyptic look is down to the camera and the rather dark weather at the time I'm sure... it's pretty nice weather now :) I might dig out my real digicam next week and take some more pics.
And Divine: I plan all the appointments either on the weekend or during one day of the week, that keeps my travelling down a bit (though train is free for students anyways so it's no real worry).
