Hello, i just discovered this site, this is my first post:)
I'm curious about the DD64 and I was interested in maybe getting one off of ebay or similar, somewhere down the road. The more I searched, the more clear it became that these units were a bit rarer than I had first thought. I was surprised by how hard it is to find any information about this thing at all. I found the game list, and while it's not very impressive, the mario artist series has me intrigued, and I've always been a sucker for the N64. This seems like a nice community and I figure I probably won't find a better place to ask these questions.
How hard is it finding a DD64? How much can you expect them to go for? Do you need a Japanese N64 to connect it to? I hope someone will take the time to answer these questions.
    Thank you.

Hello DaJuice and welcome to the board. The 64DD is uncommon but not impossible to find. Going from memory a complete Randnet 64DD w box for around $350-$450 with the Blue Box one going for a little less. On the plus side if all you're interested is Mario Artist 64 your in luck since those are the cheapest of the 64DD games. I don't believe you need a Japanese (Not sure if PAL systems will work though) N64 but you probably have to mod your system to make it work. Hope this helps and if I'm off on anything I'm sure someone else will jump in to correct me.

Link to Ebay 64DD listings. Most I've seen posted in a while.

I appreciate it A. Snow. btw I was searching for DD64 the whole time which turned up very little info, when I should have been looking fo 64DD. :smt030 Those prices are steep, but not quite in the insane category yet. Looking forward to the day when I can return with my very own DD. :)

    Hiya, Welcome to the boards.

A snow is correct, the N64DD will work with either a US or Japanese N64. The best place is probably ebay for getting hold of one as they seem to pop up all the time.

Theres a good site on the net if you want more infor on the 64dd

Its a nice thing to own as the mario artist disks are my favourites.

  5. Welcome welcome!

As Importaku said, the 64dd.net site and boards are a good place for info, it's just a pity that the boards are very close to dead - not much activity. They also have a wanted/for sale thread that might be a good place to look for a unit.

While the prices the other guys have quoted you are pretty much par for the course as far as a 64DD goes on eBay, I urge you to wait it out a little bit. There's no reason you should pay that much for a system that was supposed to have something like 10,000 units released. Look around various hardcore Nintendo fan boards, various nationalities of eBay, and it wouldn't hurt to make a friend in Japan and see if they can keep an eye out (if you ask nicely Yakumo might take a look-see for you). I guess this warning stems from my opinion that like Neo Geo stuff and Radiant Silvergun, 64DD related goods are priced high not for their true rarity but for their relative obscurity, and I just refuse to play that game. If money is no object, there are usually a few on eBay in the price range that A.Snow quoted, but if you're into waiting around, just keep your eyes peeled - I missed out on a unit (no accessories, just the 64DD) a few months ago on Ebay that ended for about $95, so they can be had at a reasonable price.

Hope this helps, and hope you stick around! :smt023

Hey, that's pretty reassuring Greatsaintlouis, I might actually get away with a purchase like that. :smt023 I'll have to keep my eyes peeled.

  7. Yeah, that's the thing is just to be ever vigilant. Most of the games - barring Doushin 2 and the golf one - can be had cheaply as well. I got my copy of Doushin The Giant for $14, and have several times missed out on some of the Mario Artist programs - complete with their various accessories - for $25-$30 on account of I had no cash.
