The above post is my recent blog post.. how is this possible? This would of happened to many of us, for what ever we were looking for.

on another note: Anyone know a online store that sells Playstation 3?

The problem with online shopping is shipping time, sometimes.. hell almost always when I want something, I want it today, not tomorrow!

Same here, but every where I asked they said it takes 16 weeks for a Playstation 3 to be at the store.. My payment and the item gets there and here quicker.

In that case you don't have much of a choice.

Personally I usually am willing to pay more just to have something today. Only if the webshop can garantee me that its in stock and shipped the same day I go for online.. or clearly if the price difference is so big I would be stupid to buy offline.

Sadly my experiance online, is even when they marked it as stocked it sometimes takes ages to arrive.

So come on then, how many actual Dreamcast's did you find in all of these stores that you visited, what condition were they in and how could you be certain that they were all in A1 working condition? Do you have proof? Actually, considering the way the thread has been titled I am almost certain that all your findings were meticulously and painstakingly documented, after all you wouldn't want to make yourself look foolish now, would you...

I'm looking forward to seeing the results of your findings, hopefully it'll make for some insightful and interesting reading.

Dreamcasts were built to last, not like these days with all this newfangled technology, you used to be able to get your dreamcast repaired for a shilling! Not like these days where if your PS3 breaks, sony forces you to eat if you expect them to replace it, those were the good old days.
    :p
In all seriousness though, I can't imagine you saw many working dreamcasts. Tis not as though they're a dime a dozen. I have to take a half hour train journey If I want to see a dreamcast in a shop and judging by the fact that I have taken back several games which had disc rot and they simply put them back on the shelf to sell without testing them. There's no garuntee that they work anyway. So yeah

It was more sarcasm, seeing that finding a Dreamcast is kinda difficult, but I found it easier finding one than a PS3, every store told me they had defective PS3s, making me travel to and from the store to get the money to buy one, and turn around and say that.

There is a store 30minutes from my house that has retro systems, I've seen a dreamcast there quite a few times (they're asking way to much for them) but still a Playstation 3 is current generation, why is it so hard to find one?

My main point of that post, was mentioning how horrible retail stores have gotten in Australia, weirdly the staff have no clue what they're doing.

My 'local' (half hour train ride) retro store is the same on that front, £35 for a dreamcast they haven't even tested with a controller, power cable and Rf lead, rip-off.

That's much the same as the UK, though clearly it's easier to find a working one here, I'm guessing that ps3 isn't very popular where I live because the local secondhand stores always have billions of them. The people behind the counter in GAME are too busy calling you "mate" to know anything useful though. I asked a guy in a store if they had any leftover dreamcast games in the back a few years ago and he looked at me like I'd just asked if he wanted to marry my grandmother and spend his days writing futurama fanfiction in an articulated lorry.

Sarcasm at its heart is funny, your post was not.

Back to the main body of the text though, I'm finding it incredibly difficult to believe that all the retailers you visited only had faulty units. Even if that were the case, why on earth would they even tell you that, it just doesn't make sense. I've never once gone into a retail establishment of any kind to enquire about an item only to be told ''yes, we've got some out the back but they're all fucked.'' It just doesn't happen

Sounds strange, depends on the area I guess.

I snagged a 320GB PS3 (with LBP 2 included) in Tesco Eastbourne for £270 on offer about 9 months ago. I wanted a second one for online. Bought my first (60GB) online from Argos for nearly £500 with Motorstorm at launch.

They were plentiful in Eastbourne and they are in Manchester as well last I looked.

GAME is horrible, that's store I'm actually talking about. We have them here too. We have EB Games, and that's enough over priced stores. That's bullshit, why employ someone who won't even check the storage to see if they have anything in stock.

I was told by one of the employees that they had a 80GB model Playstation 3 for $240. I went to go get the money to buy it. Turned up and I asked the other guy that was working there, I then asked:
"I'm here to pick up the 80GB PS3"

he replied "We don't have any instock"

"Really? I was just told by that guy over there you had one"

he walks over to that other guy and tells him that it was defective.. Why tell HIM and not me? Horrible. I don't think I'll be going back there any more.

 I know, it doesn't make sense they either said we don't have any working, or we don't have any instock.. Every store in 2 shopping malls didn't have any.. Amazing how this happens when the price drop happened. :banghead:

I apologize for the misleading title, but it's how I felt at the time.

You're lucky to have the 60GB, does it still work?

Yeah, purring like a kitten, though I plan to rip it apart and put it's innards inside a PC case to prolong it's lifespan some more.

At the moment it's on make shift stilts to prevent heat build up underneath and I usually run it with a desk fan facing the front to get more air flow around it as it runs really, really hot when taxed during game play.

I use it as my hacked PS3 for homebrew ect, I have a slim next to it I use for online game play.

Too bad they're known for malfunctioning, they look so nice :crying:

That's the way to do it, hows the PS3 homebrew going at the moment. I was thinking of hacking it when I got it but no online..

So so at the moment, there are some pretty amazing programs like Multiman which has Showtime built in (an excellent media player) and allows you to play PS1 games on it now and has an emulation section for it as well.

If you're getting a slim then I'd suggest getting the E3 flasher or Progskeet as these devices as I understand it allow you to have a dual firmware setup so you can have the latest online legit firmware coupled with ether 3.41 or 3.55 custom firmware. They're solderless as well, so no complex iron work needs to be done, though you will need a healthy portion of common sense.

I'll be going down that road when my 60 eventually dies, which will be a sad day. And I am reluctant to pull it to bits as I am quite fond of that unit at this point.

I actually have 3 PS3s but one of them is my brothers old 40GB fat which I reflowed, however it died again after 4 months, I only used that one as a media player as well.

Let the 60GB live and mod another slim  60GB are getting hard to find.

The dual firmware sounds like an awesome idea might end up doing that at some stage when I get my Playstation 3, thanks for telling me about that.

I would but then I'd just have to turn it off and never play it again as it would expire anyway, and a console sat there doing nothing is not really any good to me.

I could pay to have it reballed at some point but since the rest of the joints on the console are tin solder as well (not the leaded solder) the thing will probably die again.

    Damn you Sony!

:crying: I guess your right, it'd be depressing the day it dies though.
