I decided to see what the craze over the Fire Pro Wrestling series is, so I grabbed a copy of Fire Pro Wrestling 3: Legend Bout on the PC Engine for a few dollars. I have a problem though. Either the game is defective, I'm retarded and should give up gaming forever, or I am correct in thinking that the game has no discernable control scheme? The round starts and I can move my wrestler about, and even use punches and kicks, but as soon as I come within reach, the controls cease to work and I am allowed to watch for the next five minutes as my character is repeatedly bummed in the gob and has his ass handed to him. Rapid button mashing does little more than break the computer's hold on my character and let him set up for another move. Does anyone have a translated copy of the instructions, or is fluent enough in Japanese to read a copy of the manual, or should I go with my impulse and smash the HuCard and flush the remnants down the toilet?
I must say that I was a bit confused by Fire Pro Wrestling 6 Men Scramble on the Saturn... was playing it with 2 friends and we kept button-bashing at one another for 30 minutes but nothing really happened :smt082
I think Fire Pro games are well over rated. Can't seem to do anythingon any of them. Saying that, most wrestling games are like that. Yakumo
I figured it probably wasn't just getting smacked in the mouth - I was actually inspired by Consolevania Ep. 3 where they take the dare to say the phrase on TV when discussing Manhunt, and I figured that the meaning probably isn't anything too television safe. :smt043 And while I agree that wrestling games as a genre strike me as the most pathetic waste of developer time and money ever, I keep hearing rave reviews about how the Fire Pro series are so cool. I think those people are probably either insane or they actually are dumb enough to watch wrestling, therefore rendering the inane action of wrestling games perfectly appropriate. Just me tho.
I don't wacth wrestling but love fire pro and it got me kind of interested. I'm surprised none of you like at least the saturn version. Read a FAQ on the controls (www.gamefaqs.com). It's a timming based system who ever presses the button first when the arms meet in a grapple. And you have to tire the person down like in Fire Pro 6 men scramble A=weak grapple (you work on the person with that), B=Medium Grapple (then when he gets more worn out you move up), C= Strong Grapple (Finisher), and A+B= Finisher. I have played six player battle royals many times with my friends, I even have the dreamcast one (but prefer the saturn 6 players). Greatsaintlouis did you use a six button controller because I think for fire pro on the PC Engine maybe its required?
That could be part of my problem... I don't yet have an Avenue Pad, so now it might be time to invest in one (and buy Street Fighter for good measure :-D )
