I just obtained a stand-up Hanaho/PVG Tech Gameroom Classics cabinet with the Taito configuraiton (20-in-1 SD card type Jamma card and cab decoration). It has a full Jamma harness, though I suspect the power supply does not output 12v. Nevermind though, I intend to connect up a PC power supply. It does not have a coin slot or a test switch, but I intend to add those soon. UPDATE: Pics The Jamma card does not start properly. Although it displays a 'splash screen', the RAM test fails. I haven't been able to find any documentation suggesting a reason for this, so I have to assume the PCB is fried. So, I'm looking at getting this as a replacement: http://www.jammaboards.com/store/60-in-1-multigame-pcb/prod_212.html Does anyone have any experience with this kind of PCB? I'm wondering on how reliable it will be, but it will be a nice starter unit and it has many of the classic games I used to enjoy playing.
Heh, we spent so long together our gaming periods are aligned James. I've recently bought an Egret II and a New Astro city. :rambo: I'm still a complete n00b with the cab side of things and I presume you've already given the jamma edge connector a quick clean. I can't think of anything else that could cause that error. I was looking at the 1069 version of the one you posted but there is so much choice I wouldn't give any one game a good seeing too. Think I'll just leave mame on the pc and stick to pcb's and MVS carts for the cabs.
That's great man, congrats! It has always been a dream of mine to own a cabinet, ultimately I will get a few more I think, I definitely want a more modern designed one eventually and I don't know if i will want to add extra buttons to this cab as it is so nicely decorated. Unfortunatley the RAM is surface mounted and I don't see anything burned. I took out the SD card and checked it on a PC, I figured it was worth backing up anyway. The card contains a single 'master.img' file, which is really just a passworded Zip file. Note: this is an officially licensed machine. You can see the 'rom' files within using a zip utility and the various parts that the emulator on the PCB uses, but without the password there is little that can be done. So maybe the 'RAM' test is in reference of the card, and the card slot on the PCB is screwed. If I start up the unit without the SD card inside, it does the same thing though, so who knows. As it turns out, that 60-in-1 will be no good as it is all vertical titles and I have a horizontal mounted monitor. Bah!
I love that cab, good luck with getting it up and running. Nice to see more arcade related activity too! As for Borth obtaining a New Astro City, can I ask what price? I only ask as someone I know is selling one, but doesn't know the price. I thought roughly £350-400. About right?
That's roughly the right price. All depend on if the monitor has any screen burn and if the cab is good/clean shape. If it's in good/excellent condition with good sticks/buttons then 400£ with maybe a bit more is around the right price. I luckily got both of mine on the cheap, 275£ delivered each. They need a good clean and have some screen burn.
I've ordered a 19-in-1 horizontal games PCB with the following titles: Defender Stargate Bubbles Joust Robotron Blaster Splat Rally X Battle City Mario Bros. New Rally X Ghost'n Goblins Solomon's Key Gradius Sky Kid Ice Climber Super Mario Bros. Do! Run Run Kick Rider http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-5BkPhBS3A I have taken out the Jamma board and the mounting plate, a right pain because the screws were so poorly made (or tightly screwed) that the screw driver literally ate the heads off them. It was also tight in there and right next to the main power input of the monitor. Luckily it is done without deathly electrocution. I have decided to improve the cabinet with the following: 12V power source (ATX power supply) mounted in lower half of cabinet. I will route/saw out an area sufficient enough to allow the back panel of said supply to face out of the hole (lets fan breathe, gives access to power switch and power socket) Rear door to the lower part of the cabinet (currently it is solid MDF board with no way of getting down there) Front coin door and mechanism Adding 1 button for each player so there are 3 buttons total (makes it compatible with all old jamma games) Adding an operator/service switch to the rear internal area Expanding a hole in the upper half of the cabinet to allow me to feed down the Jamma harness Creating a mounting area on the inside lower half of the cabinet so I can attach various sized Jamma cards. I'd love for it to support 6 button games, but feel it would end up ruining the look of the cabinet. Also it is really designed for old school games. This means I will eventually buy another cabinet... or make my own.
Id say build your own, its probably cheaper that way, and you would be sure to get the exact look and layout that you want. Ive always wanted my own arcade cab, but every time i have extra cash, something just has to come up and suck my wallet dry :icon_bigg at any rate, enjoy the cab, that 19 in 1 has quite a few classics on it.
So I received my 19-in-1 card a few weeks back and set to work. It now plays fine, although I need to add a couple of buttons to the front panel. I bought some Happ push buttons in white and black, which I intend to add for player 1 & player 2 so I have the full 3 buttons each. A few games use 4 buttons, but I'd hate to hack up the control panel much more. It's a hard decision. I already cut out a spot in the back to mount a PC ATX power supply and shorted the power signal line to Earth so that it will turn on without being in a PC case. I won't add more pictures yet, but will when I am done. It is pretty amazing playing Super Mario Bros. and Ghosts 'n' Goblins at home, I have to say!
why a coin slot? charging yourself and others for that "genuine" arcade feeling? You have a devilish business-mind! lol very nice cab by the way, I look forward to own a couple some day too
Well, a coin slot doesn't necessarily have to be functional. I have one in my cabinet for looks only.
I have a Neo Geo MVS in my apartment, which was an amazing story alone just getting it up the stairs of the apartment. Anyways, I attempted to charge 25 cents so I could do my laundry, but it didn't work out. I do keep it off free play usually though. I feel better putting quarters into it. Maybe I just miss the better days too much
Sweet cab! :icon_bigg How far along are you with the upgrades? I agree, that control panel is to nice to hack up. ^_^_^
looks okay. Honestly if I was going to drop that much money I'd look into getting a candy cab. But that's just me
