Does anyone have an answer to this question? I can't seem to find much history on early games that used this feature. From what I've been reading it seems some people have stated Marathon was the first to include voice chat with multiplayer but this doesn't seem right to me. Perhaps I'm wrong but I could have sworn there were games before Marathon to use this?
Ah, Rise of the Triad was an excellent game. I'm having trouble pinpointing ROTT's exact release date. Wiki (which we all know how reliable that can be) says 1995, while other seemingly more reliable sources state; December 21 or December 11 1994. Marathon also seems to be credited by Wiki as being released on December 21 of 1994. The question still bugs me and it's even more annoying when you can't find accurate info about release dates of games like these. One of the many reasons why I'm sad libraries are on the decline. I hope libraries never close, you just can't trust the internet for pure facts in many cases.
You'd have the same issue with libraries, there is literally a metric ton of books that contradict others on a wide variety of subjects. Also I don't remember Marathon having Voice Chat, however its possible that it did and I never used it, as the only times I got to play multiplayer was at LAN or AppleTalk parties with about 4 other people.
