Hi all, I'm a collector rather than a developer, I've just picked up a 2006 manufactured xdk along with a pile of bits.

The sidecar is detatched, and I'm not sure where the bits go...!

I have a few spares too casings, cables, a hdd, more cables, fans etc, which is making the whole thing much more complicated than if it was just 1 xdk!
I had a look at the sticky thread, but the images are all gone, any hints :concern:

    Cheers,
    Chris

Thanks! I fear this might be the first of many questions... :nightmare:
Also just managed to type out a whole post and somehow loose it, so here goes again!

Ok, so first the top of the console with sidecar removed.
I think it was forcibly removed (though it doesn't look like they can be other wise removed of course!)

    Now the sidecar itself.
    8 cables:
1 360 HDD connector that obviously goes into the top of the console.
What are the other 7 for..
1 red and very long cable.
    4 white, small / med / large / rectangular with 9 / 11 / 13 / 12 pin connectors
    2 with HDD connectors (SATA?)

A pile of cables - I *think* these might be from broken down consoles / sidecars, but may be relevant?

3 boards, 2 look the same and have, actually, these look like power switches with the LEDs...
The larger one has a female SATA connector
    [IMG]

Fans with casings in white and black (are these just from broken down 360s?)

I also have a few top and bottom cases (not pictured) from very dark grey XDKs and black prototypes, plus facias, though I realise these aren't relevant to fitting the side car!

Higher res images in my photobucket if these are too small..

Ah I see, so my first port of call is to open the console up and plug it in! I had been thinking that I had to connect additional components in between the console and the sidecar somehow!

The original xbox cabling makes some sense too actually, as amongst the collection of bits, I have a casing (and a half..) for a green debug and crystal dev kit.

Lots of dvd drive power cables similarly as I have a pile of dvd drives, as well as fans, fan casings and console housings for xdk / xedks.

    Thanks! :D

Got it back together and up and running.

The casing is not in a good way though, looks like someone before me didn't know how to open up the console and on the back where the retaining clips are, there are a lot of scratches and a couple of holes, but I felt I should keep the original casing on it rather than switch it for a better condition spare with the wrong serial number.

The clips on my casings seem to be pretty broken up too, though I suppose the ends would hold the console together if I ever wanted to recase a regular 360 into an xdk / proto case.

The DVD drive was plugged into the board, so I reckon they were possibly trying to convert it to a regular console!
One of the 6 retaining clips on the sidecar is missing too (as can be seen on my photos above) so it doesn't quite fit properly, and I only have space outer side car cases, no inners with retaining clips.

Do these things usually have anything on the hard drives..?

If it came from a company then there might be files from the game they were working on at the time, but since its in the condition it is i doubt it :[

Yea the sidecar won't fit perfectly because you have some of the clips broken. I forgot where it was I read someone was able to make their own clips and attach them to the sidecar. The sidecar is just used for doing debugging and dvd emulation. The Hard Drive stores stuff just like a regular Xbox 360, you can access it using Jtag/RGH apps or using the Xbox 360 SDK. Sometimes people usually find prototypes, alphas, or even unreleased copies of games on the hard drives.

Ok, so now that it's back together I plugged it into the TV and there are a few bits on the HDD, some feature demo type apps which I reckon might well be on every one of these maybe, and a full / completed retail release of Crackdown.

Well, that's number 1 up and running, number 2 has a 067 fault, so time to open it up and attempt to change the HDD in the sidecar without breaking it :S

Would you ever sell one of your sidecars?

Stop asking him to sell in the damn thread. PM him it's there for a reason. He also doesn't have 50 posts so no selling talk at all please.

For now my main interest is getting them up and running.

Switched the hard drive out in number 2 last night, managed it without removing the side car ( and so without breaking the seal) but either my spare is also broken or the 067 error is in relation to something else ( maybe the hdd cable or connection..)
