I have owned an offical dc arcade stick for awhile, was lucky to snag one of amazons last new ones, cant remember the year but i think it was a little after doa came out in the us, anyway after about a year or two i didnt notice, but the stick is very loose now, is there anyway to repair the joystick so it will be firm again like before?

I suppose you could open it up and stretch out the spring a bit.

As ASSEMbler said, but if it's using standard arcade parts you may find it easier to just buy a replacement stick. My fave source is Bob Roberts [http://www.homearcade.org/BBBB/ ] who charges $8ish for the (very excellent) Happ Competition sticks.

Worth a try, at any rate.

You'd stretch the spring itself. Obviously this is a 'quick fix' solution that won't last forever, but it's worth a shot.

[in case you've never opened one before, most arcade sticks have a ring of pushbuttons to register the directions, with an actuator in the middle of the ring which is attached to a piece of metal with the plastic knob on the end. In between the actuator and the bit sticking out of the front of the control panel is a big spring; stretching it a bit should increase the tension and make the stick feel stiffer]

ill give it a try, if that doest work im guessing i will have to look for those saturn style pads for dc made by ascii or find their alternative arcade sticks, for some reason the offical one can get a bit pricey, its sad too cause i have the box and everything for mine, im guessing its normal for arcade sticks to wear out after use for awhile.

Dude, do yourself a favor and throw a Sanwa stick in there. It will take you about 2 hours of work and some elbow grease, but the reward is far greater!

Yeah, GaijinPunch is right, get a Sanwa stick and buttons and put those in. There was a guide for this somewhere iirc, I'll see if I can find it. It's a very simple mod and it improves the control a great deal.

These pictures might help. If you can read Japanese, the text will help:
    http://www.geocities.co.jp/AnimeComic-Name/4989/dc/dc.html

All you really need to know how to do, is shave down the base (get a gouge and file), then what wires go from the Sanwa harness to the DC harness. If you want to do the buttons (not nearly as necessary, IMHO, but doable) then you'll need a dremel or similar tool to shave the button holes down, as 30mm Sanwa buttons won't fit. That is the shittiest part of the mod.

    Here's some great info:

GSL sent you the right link. Get a Sanwa stick with a harness (a little less soldering). It's a pretty easy mod. It was my first stick mod - piece of piss. Just gotta use some elbow greese when you're smoothing out the spot where you attach the stick.

so im guessing from the looks it soldering the wires from the stick to the cable that goes from the board. Sounds like an intresting project, and i got a dremel so it shouldnt be hard to smooth out the mold on the plastic for the stick. Well when i get some money this looks like my next project.
