First off, sorry if this is in the wrong section, but it seemed the most suitable.

I recently bought a used Flash2Advance 256mb USB linker, and after a lot of searching, found the necessary drivers / software required for writing to the cart. However, I am unable to save. I loaded Zelda - The Minish Cap on as a test, and initially could not create a save file. Trying to save my character name gave me an error.

I thought it was a battery issue, so I switched the battery, but was having the same problem. I then downloaded GBATA and patched the ROM with the SRAM Patcher included. Loading on the new patched ROM, I get a message that the save file 1 was corrupt. But I can now name a character and get past the welcome screen. Power cycling deletes all save files though.

Is this a battery issue, or a software issue? What can I do to fix this problem? I had the same problem testing out Pokemon LeafGreen as well...

    Thanks!

The original problem sounds like a patch issue, i.e. the game wasn't patched to use flash2advance's memory which wouldn't be the same as the original cartridge's. The second problem after it was patched sounds like the wrong patch has been applied or the battery is dead. Take the screw out and measure the voltage of the battery, or put an LED on it (with the correct polarity) and see if it lights up, if it does it's OK.
