Here's a strange one. I recently installed a mod chip into my PSOne console. I've yet to determine whether or not the mod works, but that is a story on another thread. I have however noticed a slight issue that I'm keen to fix. The PSOne came with an LCD screen attachment for playing on the go. When I boot up the Playatation and view the output on my TV screen all looks fine. However when I view it on the little LCD screen, the Sony and Playstation ident screens are flickering, as if some kind of sync issue is happening, but then when the game loads the picture is absolutely fine. It literally only happens on the Sony and Playstation logos and only on the small LCD. I can view the output on the TV and LCD at the same time and the TV is fine while the LCD is flickering. If it wasn't for the fact that during the game there are no issues, I'd assume I had a broken LCD attachment. But I'm assuming this is something relating to the mod chip I installed. Has anyone come across this before?
Might be deinterlacing. If I'm not mistaken, the system menus are 480i. Most games switch over to 240p.
The PS1 screen mobo? What do you mean? I get flickering on the Sony Computer Entertainment ident, then flickering on the Playstation ident, but then everything returns to normal from there on.
It is because the Onechip for the PAL PSOne changes the BIOS and license screen mode to 60hz but the PAL PSOne LCD can't handle 60hz. Nothing out of the ordinary although it does suck unfortunately. If you are only playing PAL backups then it would probably be best just to use MM3 chip instead of the Onechip to avoid this issue with the LCD screen but then you won't be able to play any imports. If you want to play any imports then you will need keep the Onechip installed and ditch the PAL LCD and use a TV instead or buy a US or JAP PSOne LCD screen.
Ahhh thanks for the answer Kel, that makes perfect sense. I guess if the screen mode has changed then that indicates that the Onechip is doing its job (I haven't been able to verify this because I haven't been able to get a backup working and have no genuine NTSC games to test with). It's unfortunate that I'm only going to be able to use the LCD for PAL games but it's not the end of the world. I'd rather have the option there to play imports. Thanks very much for your help everyone
