Is this really a shock to anybody?

We've known for a long time that MS has a new internal team working on a Halo game after bungie leaves.

Nope, already heard months ago about this, its suppose to be a prequel set at the beginning of the war, in the planet harvest IIRC.

And I agree with graciano, specially considering what a turd COD:MW2 was.

so wait, they are making a prequel, im guessing thats set before the prequel that is reach?
Whats next? Halo 5: Dating sim. Objective is to make sure spartan 117 is born by steering the meeting between mother and father?

I didnt think MW2 was that bad a game, sure it wasnt real improvment, but at least they never claimed it was the last game in the series.

AFAIK is going to be based on contact:harvest, which is how the human-covenant war started. Guess they couldn't find a way through halo3's ending.

And MW2 sucked man, the story was out of wack, gameplay-wise the only thing new were the UAVs, and the whole game lasted 3-4 hours top. Compared to the massive MW1 it should have been a mere expansion pack.

If Microsoft didn't have a new Halo coming to curb their losses financially and in consumer trust after Kinect flops... then... that would be bad. (sorry, best I can do, just woke up)

    Halo > Cod.

Yes, flogging a rotting horse is releasing a sequel to a game franchise that has yet to have a game that is not perceived as solid by majority of the gaming public (except Halo Wars)

I think that games like Halo and Killzone aren't a problem. At least they have a story and add something new on the genre (that is over populated, yes)

CoD: MW2, BBC2, MAG and stuff like that are passable though. Not only the games are overhyped, the "quality" of people playing the MP...

I confess that during E3, i did enjoyed how Medal of Honor MP looked / plays, but i doubt i would have the same ammount of fun i'm having with Killzone 2 MP. It's great to see when teamplay simply works, enhanced by the game's missions and rank system.

    Well said Druid.

Only 5 Halo games in nearly 10 years so far.

How many has Mario been in the same span of time?

Me neither, overall all halo games are good, and the only case of franchise whoring was Wars, which wasn't as bad as what other franchises have done (like after-2001 sonic games and most of the mario party titles).

If Halo4 is a prequel I think it can be a great game, but a sequel? kinda difficult

I'm not even sure if Halo Wars can be considered franchise whoring...

it still continued the story, stayed true to the theme of the franchise, and was a solid game. It was a bit shallow for RTS but part of that is a limitation of the control format.
