Floppy Drive stops working during Windows 98 SE?

Well they were like 16 year olds I think..

 

I have to ask, do you really need to use the floppy drive?
Your motherboard has usb ports, couldn't you use a flash drive to transfer stuff...

 

Kinda hard to use USB on a 486 running DOS sometimes, as much as I'd like it. I dump floppies I get ahold of regularly so having a functional floppy drive in a modern machine is a necessity for me. As are several zip drives, SuperDisc and others.

 

I understand you perfectly well, I bought a box of 3.5" floppies two months ago, somehow they seem to be of very bad quality...
My post was aimed at Haunted360, he uses Win98SE on a P3, I think he could use an usb flash drive or a network share with more ease than fighting for its floppy drive.

 

Or just use ethernet to transfer stuff.

If its an OS installation issue - use PXE.

Disks died a long time ago for me, as did CD/DVD unless required for consoles.

 

I wouldn't want to actively use floppy disks to transfer data between machines since SMB has been interoperable since at least Windows 3.11 (probably older than that) and FTP is so old that there is bound to be a client for virtually every OS out there. Rarely you still find systems that require a floppy disk for BIOS flashing but after having purchased a programmer I find myself popping out chips and writing to the chip directly more often than bothering with the built in flashing utility.

 

You can just pxe boot a dos floppy if you still need too.

 

I am using FTP.
However, I had some Windows C disks I wanted to install. I have anyhow, copied them to an archive.

The seller of the board is probably going to give me a refund anyway.
