HTML: http://page2.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/b82125739 I've never seen an auction for one before so I assume they're rare - but worth that much?
I am not that familiar with this unit. Probably a great person to check with would be Eric (japan-games.com username here). He is a great guy and I am sure he would be happy to provide some feedback on this.
It is the only FM Towns luggable, er I mean laptop, it was released in 1995, weighs 5kg, 34cm by 34cm by 7.7cm. It's fully FM Towns compatable. Basic spec was 486DX/2 - 66Mhz (one of the fastest FM Towns computers), 4 MB RAM, 500MB Hard disc (upgradable), has a floppy drive and a tray CD-rom unit. Also has ethernet and a modem too. Screen is a colour TFT type, it's not too bad but it does have video, s-video and VGA ports too. Has all the standard FM Towns connectors too. Power supply is built in hence the large size... I say luggable as the machine has no battery so is not much of a notebook, so no dreams of playing say Tatsujin 2 on a FM Towns whilst flying at 10,000 feet... It cost 528,000 on release (about £2300), it didn't sell very well but they do show up and can go from Y40,000 to over Y100,000.
Sounds like good specs for a machine that size. I've only ever seen an advertisement before, so its interesting to see a few more pics and hear some specs. Pity theres no battery - wonder why they'd build what looks like a notebook and not make properly portable. No wonder it didn't sell well... Does anyone on here have one/have any more pics?
that kind of remind me the word processor popular in Japan back in 80s... I used to have one which has the MSX2+ built-in - or was it MSX2+ with built-in word processor... -__-)a
Dang, I barely remember that and I was an FM Towns freak back in the day. That auction is calling me...must...resist...
Damn. I turned down a freebie one as it didn't have docs, box etc. Foolish indeed. But as Jamtex alludes to its basically useless for games as you can get better setups cheaper, and it won't play games on the fly (no pun intended).
Why does it have a "Microsoft Windows" sticker on the side? I thought FM Towns computers had their own OS or something.
The Windows sticker is for Windows 3.11J, the FM Towns is effectively a PC although won't run DOS games (although a number of programs / hentai games were DOS/V, PC-9801 and FM Towns compatable), it can install Windows 3.1J as there is a FM Towns set up for it and can run most Windows 3.x programs too. Windows 95J can install on a hard drive compatable FM Towns but you are going to need at least 16MB RAM and a 486 processer and you'll need to download a driver for the keyboard but this is still available at the Fujitsu website...
