FM Towns Marty 2 Questions

Discussion in 'Rare and Obscure Gaming' started by The-Old-Arcade, Apr 14, 2008.

  1. I've bought a FM Towns Marty 2 but it only came with a dodgy power cable.

I need a AV cable and wondered whether or not this one would do the job.

I could do with swapping the power cable as well, does anyone no where I could get one from?

I'm also on the lookout for the original manuals, again if anyone knows where I could get them from give me a shout.

That looks like just a regular rca to rca cable, does the marty 2 have composite and audio l/r rca sockets on the back?

Whats wrong with the power supply? I can't imagine the power cable itself would be the cause. It maybe a problem with the connection, ie the socket. What power cable does it use?

  3. These are the ports at the rear of the machine:

    So looks standard stuff.

When plugging into the Step Down Convertor I have to put downward preasure on the plug for it to power on.

I tried the Marty 2 EX on the same Step Down Convertor and this works fine.

Yep, they're all standard connectors. I think it's the same power connector as the Sega Saturn. Any RCA cable will work, when connected to an NTSC video monitor/TV.

  5. I've reached the guy I bought it from and he's sent me a replacement power cable and RCA cable.

Still got the same problem with the power though, I hope its the step down converter.

If you need to apply pressure on the power plug into the unit, sounds like the solder broke on the inside. Easy enough fix if you are handy with a soldering iron.

  7. Thanks for the info ;-) I'll re-check the step-down with another device to be on the safe side and if it's the stepdown i'll open it up at the weekend and take a look.

I've soldered xbox's and stuff so should be ok with this (I Hope)

Cracked solder joint? I'd check it before there's a short.

Just wanted to let you guys know that I wasn't the seller...heh.

You can use standard RCA cables. I have extra power cables if you want one. It uses the same as those for the Saturn, Playstation, etc.

  10. Cheers, I'll do this before testing another devic

  11. Sorry for using your image Japan-Games, it was the only one I could find in a hurry.

It was http://www.gamechoiceclub.com where I got the system from not to say the system is faulty - And I received good service from them.

I managed to get hold of the power cable and RCA cables now but thanks for the offer.
