I have a few questions about hardware compatibility of the FM Towns Marty. 1) I know the Marty takes PC Cards and has a PCMCIA slot, but is it a PCMCIA 1 or 2? Also, will any IC Card work in a Marty or are there specific models. 2) The Marty's controller connectors are DB9, are you able to use Genesis or 3DO controllers in the system or will it damage it? Also, what kinds of mice are compatible with the Marty, if any. 3) The keyboard connector looks proprietary, are there any other keyboards that use that connector and might work on the console? 4) Can the Marty's RAM be upgraded? The reason I am asking this is because I recently bought an FM Towns Marty, but there is precious little information out there and hardware is very hard to find. If you can answer my questions, it would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
1. Techinically it's a JEIDA slot, it's mainly used for memory upgrades. Good luck in trying to find something to fit. 2. No it uses Japanese PC connectors which are different, you could use MSX or X68000 controllers but they will lack the extra buttons like select and start. 3. Nope it's proprietary, only FM Towns keyboards will work on it. 4. See question 1.
Thank you, this information is really useful to me. By any chance, would upgrading the RAM allow me to play Street Fighter, Samurai Shodown or Mahou Daisakusen? And do you know whether or not if HD installing Alone in the Dark would make it run faster?
