    Hey,

I have a fm towns marty and when I insert a disk in the drive, it just makes a really louse screach, Anyone know if thats just a damaged belt/loose belt?

I bought it new a few years back and barely played it. I've never saved anything on it so I'm not sure what a messed up marty drive sounds like.

    Thanks!
    Sal

Edit: Now that I've been playing with it some more, I'm convinced its the drive belt. I have a replacement on it way to me. Are they difficult to replace?

    Sorry for the newbie questions...

I don't know about the FM Towns Marty in specific, but I've had drive belts go bad in other electronics before (turntable, CED player) and have been able to find replacements by measuring the length of the belt and finding a similar o-ring at a hardware/plumbing place.

If you've already got a real replacement on the way though, I guess the point is moot.

Thanks for the quick response, I guess my real concern was how difficult are they to replace specifically in the fm towns marty. I did replace it today and it was extremely easy. Took less than 10 minutes.

If it happens again, I'll try using a o-ring, thats a great idea.

Where did you find a replacement. I just ordered my Marty 2 and he says the drive is fine but I want to order one just in case before it arrives just in case so it isn't handicapped for a week or so of actually getting it.

I got it from ebay seller http://stores.ebay.com/Andy-Games-Japan and I just ordered a second one from him as a back up. Drop him an email and he'll hook you up. He charges $12.00 for it and its an original replacement.

Definetly worth getting an extra belt or two, considering my system was bought brand new several years ago and I used it less than an hour and its been sitting in storage for all these years. I was really surprised to see the belt go on me.
