Hey everyone, i recently bought this copy of Raiden Densetsu for my beloved marty console: As you can see it is complete with box and manual, so i'm ofcourse very happy with it. But there is one thing that seems rather strange, when i look inside the box i see this: It is completely emty! There is nothing to hold the cd jewel case and manual in its place. I can't imagine it left the factory like this, because game and manual would be damaged before it arrived in the shop. My question would be, what does the original game box insert look like? Any raiden owners care to check their box?
Your copy is incomplete, the plastic insert is missing (nothing special) do you really need a picture of it ?
Ok, i have made you one http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/72/imag0001jc.jpg/ No idea about these flyers but i allready had two copys of Raiden with them
Thanks for posting that picture. It certainly looks like something is missing in my box, but it seems also your box is a little different. Your grey colored insert is hold into place on two points at the right side, my box doesn't have these expansions. Maybe there is also difference in size, i can't see it very good but i think my box is a little larger? Can you compare the edges of the boxart on your box with mine?
Hey, maybee the seller (or a owner before) replaced the box with a game like The 4th Unit, Prince of Persia, Alshark or Dungeon Master II, these FMTowns games have all the same size with only a little difference (1-3mm´s). Also a few PC98 or x68000 games use the same sized boxes. I had just a quick look at my collection. If you want i can check out a cheap game tomorrow which is using exactly the same box so you can buy it (@ yahoo) and replace your box.
Just curious, these soft cases look to be the same size and shape as the older NEO GEO Home System cases. Are they the same?
Hey, if i remember correct Neo Geo game cases are really "soft" (plastic?). Most FM Towns game cases are "hard" plastic. Sorry but long time since i have seen a NEO GEO game case in real ^_^
Would be great if you could give me the names of cheap titles that use the same size box. When i look in my own collection, the only box that comes close is genocide square: But even with this size it is necessary to cut-off part of the box art to make it fit. The reason i asked you to check the borders of your copy is this: A random picture of raiden from the internet, and check the explosion in the left-top corner. It seems that the box art on my box is a little more 'expanded', but that is no proof it is really bigger in size ofcourse.
Marty and NG Clam Shell are very different. I haven't seen a Marty case that comes close. @ dcf - Someone may have swapped out the case with a different one. I doubt it, but you can never be 100%. If you look closely at the two pictures you post, you can see that the covers differ ever so slightly in their 'setting' or 'cut' I suppose would be the words. The top edge of the top piccie has a few extra mms of graphic, the right hand side of the bottom image has more of the ship skeleton outline. (Perfectly normal btw, both copies look legit. Raiden just has those two slight cover variants from what I can tell. I've seen / owned a few of each.) In fact, from doing a bit more research etc it seems that every copy I have piccies of / have seen like yours, has the same box size ie the insert looks just a tiny bit too big for the box. This is common(ish) for Marty titles. Prince of Persia is a classic example, the insert simply is too big lol and always seems to have a whitened edge somewhere. :dammit: (So in a nutshell..there are two slightly different Raiden FMT cover variants, and your box size looks legit to me. Also, from memory Your grey colored insert is hold into place on two points at the right side, my box doesn't have these expansions - I don't think there are any tabs in the case, just those holes in the grey tray, I'll check my copies at the weekend if that other chap can't confirm.)
Uh oh.. i should have recognized your nick on that forum, but it was the first picture i found with google and quickly copied the link. Anyway, can you confirm or deny there are tabs on the right side in your box to 'hold' the gray tray into its place? @wheela When it is only the cut of the cover that is different, it probably means that the size of the box is the same? IF that is the case, i only have to find a cheap/crappy title that uses the same size box.
Well I guess. But I am 99% sure that the box you have is the original box for that Raiden cover variant. So why would you want to change it?
I know its some what unrelated, but the OP mentioned he has a Marty and a copy of Genocide 2. I have heard plenty of conflicting stories on if this game works on a Marty. I really want the game does anyone have first hand knowledge?
I preferably keep the original box, but i also like to have a fitting tray that looks like the original. Maybe you know from memory what the tray looked like in this variation of the box? Second best option is a different kind of tray, but it still needs to fit the box. So thats why i want to know what other games had the same size box. Last option is to create something myself, but thats a little bit 'cheap'. Tested with Marty 2.
Easiest to buy another copy and flog that one. Anyway, here's what the tray looks like. Not my piccie, but I have checked it against the new copy of that variant that I have, and it's the same as mine. (The tray is raised along the middle like it is at either side before the raised corners that go up again to the edges.) As you can see it's actually one of the double floppy disc holder style trays. So you'd stick fds at the top and bottom, held in by the corner bulges. Indeed, even with the jewel case that the below doesn't have, it doesn't fit snugly in that middle gap by any means. (Because that gap it sits in wasn't made as a cd holder, a near coincidence in size only) I also checked out the other variant, as I have one, and it's the same as the other poster's tray ie with the tabs on the right (and the case does have plastic expansions for these tabs to sit round, my bad). The case in the copy you have is 3-4mm taller than the other variant. The case is also 6-7mm deeper too. Noticed some more differences in the insert too. As the background piccie (screenshots effectively) front and rear have been resized slightly, the titles sits a little differently on the rear. The version you have also seems to have a lighter tone overall. The main body is a dark blue is it not, whereas the other version is such a dark blue that it may well be black. Hard to say under room light. Yellows / oranges etc a little lighter too. I'm guessing your copy is maybe a second run Ving cobbled together from cases they had from other titles of theirs. Can't think what though off the top of my head.
Great, that is the picture i was looking for. The jewel case not perfectly fitting is probably because the tray is made for 5,25" (and 3,5") floppy's. I think the lighter tone of my insert is because is has some minor sunburn. It is noticable on the spine in the area where the price and the KID logo is located, should be light yellow but is almost white on my copy. Anyway, thanks for your great help.
That's what I was trying to say re the jewel case / fd fitting, but you put it far more eloquently than I. Sure, yours does look to have the dreaded burn. But I'm adamant that without burn the two variants really do differ slightly in hue. I got both my copies out yesterday (the 'lighter' one is new and flawless) and checked. And obviously the cover image differs as we've discussed. I need to start checking more games to see what other variants / runs might exist. Off the top of my head, Zak and Final Blow of course. I think I have two different Marble Madness as well.
