Hey guys Someone asked me about this auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/Fujitsu-FM-Town...ash=item518b99bc43&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262 He asked why there was no "Marty" or "Fujitsu" markings on the top of the console. He thought maybe it was a fake. I've never heard of a fake Marty before, but I checked out the console and there is no text there. And there's no evidence that any text has been rubbed off. It's entirely clean in the areas where the text should be. Any reason why there's a Marty with no markings? This is actually a top I replaced from a working Marty. The working Marty had a bad top and the non-working Marty had a good top so I switched them out. I sold the good looking and working Marty so I don't have the guts that were originally under the lid, but now I'm a bit curious...
Nope, it's not been painted. I've probably handled 3 dozen of these consoles over the years (even tried painting one myself). There is no difference in the plastic where the letters should be and the plastic where they letters shouldn't be.
Could it be a pre-production case? or maybe it was intended for none home use and the branding would be useless. Was the Marty ever used in kiosk/vending or arcade use?
It's not that hard to remove the text from a console using a mixture of a white cleaning sponge and the whitening solution for getting rid of oxided plastic.
I've seen a couple like this before. Just a factory screw up I'm led to believe from a JP Marty collector I asked. I'll see if he has any concrete info.
I can't believe it was wiped off. There's no trace at all of any rubbing or any difference in the plastic whatsoever. There's no change in gloss, etc.
