So I have always been intrigued by this console due to it's obscurity. I finally got a Car Marty but found it was impossible to track down all the trimmings for it so I got a Marty 2. Well now I am on the hunt for games to play on this sweet little unit. Here is a list of the games I have played/gotten so far. Anymore please fell free to share with me that I should play. Also what genre and if they are English "friendly" like all the games I have played by Ving so far and if it requires the floppy diskette to play. Image Fight Splatterhouse Loom Tatsujin Ou Super Street Fighter 2 (most akward config. ever) Raiden (actullay the best I have played shy of the PS1) Rayxaber Kyukyoku Tiger Genocide Squared Blandia Both Indiana Jones That is about it, anything else to play would be great.
View Point,Rainbow Islands Extra,Bubble Bubble,Mahou Daisakusen,Turbo out Run,Galaxy Force 2,After Burner 3,Flying Shark come to mind.
I also got a FM Towns Marty a while ago and I must say that I'm really disappointed about most games. There are some nice shooters and Lucas Arts adventures but that's it. I've seen a lot of games on PC Engine, Saturn and other systems before. Especially Turbo Out Run and After Burner (2 and 3) are so worse on the FM Towns. Even the PC Engine versions of these games are more fun to play in my opinion. btw, Mahou Daisakusen requires 2 MB RAM and does not run on the Marty therefore.
Is there a way to boost Marty 1 or 2 to 2mb? (i play Mahou Daisakusen on FM Towns though) Lucasarts games are great, but you must be ready to pay 40000Y+ for Zak Mc Kracken or Monkey Island..
It's true that like the x68k, too many of the FM Towns library is available on other machines. IMO, when it comes to arcade conversions, if a particular home version is so close to the original, you might as well MAME it, where as a weaker home conversion (PCE, Megadrive etc) may be slightly remixed or changed to make it a worthwhile excursion. This probably makes no sense, but still, you cant deny some of the quality of conversion on Marty.
Well I just hope I like it  It arrives today according to EMS. Weird as it is Sunday but I have had EMS deliveries on Sunday before but that has been years. Thanks for the heads up and we will see how I like the deck.
So it will run? I guess I will find out as I am just stoked to finally be able to enjoy mine. I got a few ISO's I grabbed a day or so ago. Give them a run and I will go from there as the software is outrageous. Gonna play test a few games before I go blow a wad of cash I don't have ATM.
i've never heard of or got anyting confirmed (beside of adols statement above) that mahou daisakusen would run on a common marty/2 hardware. this game always was described as the sad one which is kept back for the FM Towns PC users only.
ah ok. Originally I thought the Marty has only 1 MB RAM, but I mixed it up with the Sharp X68000.
Mahou Daisakusen requires 3MB RAM. I believe that is why it does not work on the Marty (2M). While probably not impossible, there is no easy why to expand the Marty's RAM (or to get RGB - you would have to replace the video DACs).
As mentioned, most Marty games have been ported to other systems, and are usually included in collection discs (ex: Both Versions of Twin Cobra + Tiger Heli are sold on 1 PSX disc). To most it won't be worth collecting the more expensive, sometimes inferior, and more difficult to find Marty versions. There are exceptions though. Genocide Square is okay, and it includes both Genocide 1 (PC Engine) and Genocide 2 (SNES). Splatterhouse is far better than the PC Engine port. RayXanber is an exclusive, though it's an okay shmup (incredibly difficult), it's not worth buying a Marty for. Tetsujin is stupidly overrated, I wouldn't buy it on any other system, but it is an exclusive. Mad Stalker is highly recommended, but it's also been ported to the PSX. I could go on, lol, but attached is a WIP chart I'm making with some notes on all english FM Towns games I've played so far.
Mad Stalker is also on PC Engine ACD, & X68k. Shadow of the Beast is on PC Engine SCD too, wasn't sure if you were doing a complete list or not or just making notes. PuLiRuLa is on PSX & Saturn under the moniker "Aracde Gears" I think.
