    1. The IC card support

I am considering getting an "IC card" for the Marty - these are battery backed SRAM cards (PCMCIA 1) AFAIK. They can be used as a small hard drive if I understand it correctly. I have read that 2MB and 4MB cards are supported. Would like to test an 8MB card with a replaceable battery. Has anyone tried this?

    2. The expansion port

There is an 80-pin expansion port on the rear of the Marty. You have break out a little piece of plastic to get to it without opening the console. The port is used by the TCMarty for printing I believe (???). With 80 pins it is starting to remind me of the PC Engine expansion connector, and that would rock :) Anyone who knows something about it?

    1. Not tried myself. Good article here under staff articles. Was reading it the other day actually but can't recall if it answered your q or not (and for some reason it won't open for me now)

I do know that the TC Marty used an IC Card to get online though.

    2. Yeah, its for the printer. Both my TC Martys have that bit removed and a box attached with a printer cable hanging out.

Many thanks wheela! Excellent reply! Lots of good info in that article as you pointed out. Can't believe I have missed that site. 8MB cards should work :)

I suddenly remembered that I had seen a photo of an IC-card modem:

Just googled for the part number (FMM-CM301) and it turns out it is a 2400 bps modem. I guess that was the vital hardware for connecting to "Virtual Town".

Should you ever want to open that box (with the printer cable hanging out), then make sure you take some high-res photos of the PCB and chips :)
