Only two kinds of people will wear that. Game geeks, and raver kids that take lots of hallucinogens -- they can actually pull it off.

I love the catch phrase "is now available to grace your pants."

I think I posted one of those for the ASSEMbler "awful ebay auction" contest.

  12. Ack, I've seen these before at a chain called Hot Topic, lovingly referred to as the "Goth Gap" where all the trendy emo, goth, and punk kids go to buy their studded belts and black clothes. Now I might have bit into this when I was a kid (especially if it let me do cool moves like Captain N) but now I just think it's rather tacky. Of course, Hot Topic is pretty much responsible for this new "retro Nintendo is cool" craze here in the US as they carry a ton of licensed products, all of which, in my opinion, are really stupidly designed and are just whoring out the NES trademarks to the kids that want to be different but don't want to look past the local mall. But don't take my word for it, have a look: http://www.hottopic.com/store/searchSKU.asp?LS=0&DOIT=YES&SSTR=Nintendo I mean, when in hell did the door potion from Super Mario 2/USA have anything to do with a level-up?

GSL. I have the orange "You Lose" with the Gomba on it T-Shirt. I also have the Nintendo 1985 world championship and this antenna topper that you put on the antenna of your car. I honestly played the Nintendo since I was 4 years old (1988). After I bought it though. I started to see other ppl wear that orange shirt too.

The Antenna thing I dont have up yet because I'm afraid it might get stolen. Thats why I have a Mickey Mouse one instead.

  14. Heh, sorry if I offended you madhatter, you're obviously one of the exceptions to the rule, but I just think that these are really cheap and lousy products (that they are actual licensed products makes it even worse) that are just trying to cash in on the new popular american fad of being some sort of subculture - be it retro, emo, goth, punk, whatever. And like I said, I really don't like the products - how does a Goomba symbolize "You Lose"? Couldn't it be 100 points or something else? Why the hell is the Super Mario USA potion marked "Level Up?" There's a t-shirt that features the poison mushroom from Super Mario Bros. 2 (the real one, unreleased here except on Mario Allstars and therefore unfamiliar to a great number of gamers) that states "Game Over", why is that symbolic of Game Over and not of losing a life or getting shrunk? I, like you, grew up playing Super Mario Bros., and it's still one of my favorite games ever, but I have this feeling like these experiences of my childhood are just being whored out in poorly designed products to feed some peoples' (not you, obviously) need to state that they are different/retro/individual/geek/etc. So again, I didn't mean to offend you and I'm sorry if I did. I'm more railing against the crappy product design and the whoring trademarks out to make a buck, and the Hot Topic clientele that define themselves by the subculture gear they buy there than the people who buy this stuff as fans.

That being said, I don't have a problem with the shirts that feature the cover of Duck Hunt or Metroid - THOSE were at least well designed.

Hope this doesn't make me look like more of an ass than I already am.

Oh GSL. You didn't offend me in anyway. Besides. I know what you mean about that potion shirt. Its a dead giveaway that it makes you look like a wannabe hardcore gamer. You can tell I am because I bought that orange shirt in November and now its faded and has a hole on the armpit area lol. So yeh. I really like that shirt :).

Once again though. Where the Hell is the Kid Icarus shirt. Man that game gets no respect. About the only other cool game shirt Ive ever seen was just a black shirt with the Konami code on it. Also did anyone else notice the photos on the gift cards?
