I appreciate that there are many members here who speak other languages, but I have to say that this is a bad idea to me for a couple of reasons. First, would there be enough interest to warrant new sub-forums (this thread could be a good indicator). Second, there emerges a problem of moderation. If you have a sub-forum in German, for example, then it dictates that there must be a moderator who can speak/read German in order to police it. The same goes for any other languages. Japanese is prevalent on the board because a considerable number of people here do speak it in addition to English (I know I wish I could). Finally, my French is too rusty and it would make me feel bad to see just how rusty it is if there was a French section here... :crying:

I cant see any reason for any forums in other languages. As already said it would add to the moderation needed on the forum and it would also mean information isnt available to everyone. If you start a discussion in another language it leaves people who possibly know more then the current participants out of the loop and unable to share what they know.

Also the Japan forum is there not for japanese speakers but for information about Japan due to the ammount of repeated questions and topics about the area.

I totally agree with the above comments. The nice thing about the forum is how it brings us all together. Having different sections for other languages would only separate us. As mentioned before, it would mean more moderators / more burden on the moderators, and also that we would miss out on information, or it would have to be repeated in English. That bloats the database unnecessarily.

The other thing is that it is nice that people feel they can try out their English here. I have a feeling those with a lesser command of the English language would be less willing to do so given the option.

This seems pointless really. I'm sure anyone here that speaks other languages gets by elsewhere speaking in them. Not to mention I know how these always go. Some dumbass who thinks he looks smart just uses Babelfish or whatever and tries to pass themselves off as knowing anything.

I can't see it being that useful really.

i think there's no need, but i could easily mod an ipothetical italian forum, as much many other might do the same with their own language. the question is, if it would bring more people, more interest or just stay there as dead forums.

also if something important emerges it would be a must for the mod of the section to translate important topics in english for everybody's profit.

I don't see the need for a separate section. Most people who joined this forum already understand enough English to be able to express themselves as they want.

    I totally agree.

The only place in the forum where I wouldn't mind seeing posts in foreign languages would be in the Off-topic sub-forum.

No more to say, that's exactly what I think about it.
