I've seen this happen, man. In a mall close to my house there's this electronics store that's pretty much just there for money laundering. There's overpriced N64 games and some 1980s equipment, like a video titler and some weird speakers. Hell, they cleared their SNES stuff late last year! I got Carmen Sandiego for 25 pesos (2 dollars). They also have an 8000 peso PS3 (that's 600 dollars more or less). In nearby small towns, you can get NIB games abandoned in weird granny stores too.
Not what i was hoping for. I thought id see some super charged n64... Or some kit for cars.... A NOS NES would be cool
Like a year ago a small home appliances store went broke near to where I live. The place was chock full of early-mid 90s eletronics, I honestly felt like I was going back in time.........specially since the prices were the same than when I went there in 1994, zing!
This kind of thing can happen in some big chain stores too. I remember in '04 the closest Toys 'R Us to me pulled a bunch of old stock out and they had a shelf full of sealed CBFD and N64 controllers. I wish I had gotten more than one ... and not opened it. Also, in '95 my family stopped at a small department store in rural montana and bought the three NIB ROTJ toys they had for original retail.
There's a grandma shop here run by a tyrannical lady who prices all her games according to a 1990's retail price guide, no matter what kind of condition the games are in. Oh look! Loose Nintendo carts for 40 dollars a pop! Think I'll pass... None to surprising that alot of her stuff has been sitting in the same spot for 10+ years.
I definitely had a strange find at a local WalMart. Legend of Zelda OOT + Master Quest for Gamecube, sealed. Didn't even look at the price when I grabbed it, ended up being only $10. Did I get lucky?
I saw some NOS SNES stuff back in 2000 at a department store called Big-W here in Australia. It was a wall shelf full of Arkanoid and Space Invaders
I remember back in 2001, just before the GameCube launched I bought the last NIB N64 at my local Gamestop. For some reason, my credit card never got charged so I got the thing for free.
I remember a few years back, my local Comet store had a stack of the colour N64 consoles (Clear Blue/ Red etc), brand new for around GBP£40 a pop, and a few of the (ghastly) Pikachu ones.
a shop i know have official nintendo wireless (IR) controllers new sealed and i remember asking for a discount on their price almost 20 years ago... good to see they still have them
Reminds me of this craigslist ad I saw recently where this guy was selling an Atari 2600 with 50 games (no boxes, no instructions, just bare carts and system) for $200. That ad had been run for over 2 months with no change in price the whole time. I think that guy finally wised up and put it on ebay. I see stuff like that on craigslist all the time - people who think just because something is older, means it's worth more.
That brings up an interesting question. If something is 30 years old, you'd expect it to be worth some kind of value. What games from the 80s are essentially only worth about 3 bucks? I wonder if an atari 2600 pac man is worth anything, even if its a known shoddy port?
