I found a Macintosh Performa 475 with keyboard, mouse, CD drive and printer in a recycling container. The unit works fine so far.

There was also a very interesting cable. I think it's for the Mac but I'm not sure because I cannot connect it to the Mac.

The black connector has 8 pins. 3 in the first row and 3 in the second row and finally 2 in the last row.

On the other side of the cable are two chinch connectors which are plugged into an adaptor for a stereo jack. And there is a s-video connector I think (2 pins left and 2 pins on the right) which is plugged into a chinch adaptor. And finally there is something that looks like a power plug. I also found a powersupply. It fit's in. The power supply is labeled as Model DSA-0151A-12 UP

I have never seen such a cable. Does anyone know for what is it good for?

It might also be for a laptop for connecting TV-Out...just a guess.

I scanned the icon on the connector. It looks similar to other Macinthos cables:

the connector with the 8 pins, two rows of 3 and one of 2, sounds like it might fit into the printer port. the pins may be offset though, and if youve allready tried it and it didnt fit...and even if it did fit...its the printer port.

i agree with Hawanja, it probably belongs to some third party video audio editing peripheral. they did make video upgrade cards and t.v. tuners for those computers, they are hard to find though.

I'm pretty sure that's what it is, why else would there be s-video and rbg cables attached to it?

I tried to plug it into the printer port of the old Mac and it fits in :eek:h: I'm a bit astonished now.
I agree with you, it looks more like a cable for a special video card. The old Performa 475 has only a ethernet card in the expansion bay. So it seems that this cable isn't for the Mac, am I right?

kind of off topic but macintosh's used a 4 pin plug to connect keyboard and mouse, its literally the same as the s-video jacks. well maybe not exactly the same, but i remember using a s-video cable to hook up a keyboard and it worked fine.
