    Hey guys!

I'm on the look out for a Sega Saturn which allows the use of back-up cd-rs and it would be a plus if it had a 60hz mod.

Please state your prices delivered and bare in mind that I'm in the UK so would ideally prefer a UK based unit.

    Thanks in advance :)

I know this is different, but are you aware of the new firmwares for carts like Gameshark, Action Replay and Mega Memory carts that allow you to play backups without hardware mods? Since these devices also allow one to boot games from other regions it is worthy to look into.

Just letting you know since you have only joined the site today.

You can go buy a cheap Gameshark cart and flash it and have most of the features you would want save for the 60hz mod.

Thanks for in the information Anthony817.

I have researched around about the mod which can be done with an action replay card. Though, as I don't actually have the console yet and adding up the costs of purchasing both items, it near enough comes to the cost of getting a mod-chipped one without any of the hassle.

If all fails I will go down the 'pseudo-saturn' route, though I read it disables the save feature?

That is correct. It flashes it with a new firmware replacing the original. No cheats or backup saving but the dev was talking about adding direct save support. Just today he said he is doing 1 more release and going to move on from it.

In your case buying a fully modded system sounds like the best route. If you already had a Saturn and wanted to play backups easily I would say a cheap cart on ebay would be an easy thing to do.

Look in the Marketplace - plenty of members offer modding services / modified consoles for sale. Try Bad_ad in the UK - I'd say I'd help, but I've got too much on right now.

    Thanks for the advice retro.

I have scanned recent topics and there are actually no current sales of Sega Saturn's on site in the UK. I also PM'ed Bad_ad but he is unable to assist. I was offered a Saturn from an EU user but the postage costs are excessive so it's imperative that the console is based in the UK.

If you can offer help it would be appeciated or anyone else.

Afaik no mod-chip does region free.
They do boot backups but of the same region, for that you need a region free BIOS or again an AR or MCP at which point ....
But I may be wrong I have not followed most recent developments and maybe some modchip does region patching on the fly.

I could sell you a modded, region free NTSC-U Saturn but shipping won't be pretty at just $82 to get it across the pond. There would also be the small issue of it being NTSC rather than PAL.

And no, modchips do not touch region settings at all. They only bypass the requirement of needing original, pressed games. Currently to bypass region you install a switch, use a region free BIOS, patch your images before burning them, or an Action Replay cart. I don't even think the Rhea bypasses region either.

    Thanks guys for the information.

Also looking for a UK based seller, as international shipping costs seem to extortionate.

Guess I'll be in it for the long haul regarding the search.
