I was in it trying to remove the superglue I placed on the tray switch (got it for $10 as it was "dead", turns out the tray just didn't press the switch down. Anyone got a replacement? This one is definately shot) and I found this inside of it: Which goes to: But thats not all folks! I found this one as well: Sorry about the quality, it looked fine on the display. I didn't make note of what chip that was but I can check after I figure out how to get the film shielding off. Also curious about this: I know the pad on the right is for s-video, what is the one on the left for? Anyone got a wondermega they'd be willing to open and take a shot of the same area as the image above? Want to put s-video into the sucker and those units had it.
The pad to the left has enough connection points to support a DIN connector... Maybe for RGB scart? Check if the lines of the pad trace back to the Sony CX1145M chip. If so, it's probably for an RGB DIN connector. The wires look like a region mod. Some Sega/JVC designs require more complicated mods to change region. I recall seeing such a mod on a Sega machine before when searching for mods for my Asian Megadrive.
The one on the left could be for the midi out or the crazy looking AV/RF out. Take a look at this shot from the Sega Wondermega I once owned. Yakumo
I figured that's probably what it was. Still rather curious about the additional components that seemingly are useless.
Actually it looks very similar to how a s-video mode is done on a neo geo. Perhaps a failed s-video mod attempt?
Sega did stuff like that to correct design flaws, I have a model 1 genesis with all kinds of corrections on it like that.
I believe that the connector is for the Serial port for the Modem which never got released in America (the port is on the US Genesis and Euro Megadrive), the Wondermega also has the Serial port built on the machine.
