I went to exchange a defective DOA4 disc for a working one at a Gaymestop and ended up leaving with a gamecube component cable for 5$ and a Xbox Dakota controller! I was wondering how much these are worth and what the story is behind Dakota? I might or might not sell them, it's the first time I've owned something of that nature heh!

Score! These things go for around $30-$50 on ebay.

    Not sure what this is.

I'm pretty sure it's a prototype Xbox controller. My cameras broke, but it has a different plug in, breakway, the jewel is green and says Xbox, and the analog sticks are some wierd color. On the back it says Dakota.

It was 15$ and the cables were 5$. Amazes me someone traded these in for probably way below that.

I've posted about these controllers before and own a few myself.
Yeah, sometimes you can find them in the used controller section at GS, but recently the supply has dried up.

They're basically functionally identical to the final Duke design, albeit with a slightly lighter case color, the obvious green jewel, and slightly different cord. They don't work reliably on a stock Xbox...mine will cut out frequently saying "please reconnect controller".

These are basically pre-released controllers (though I've heard some people claim that their launch day Xbox came packed with a Dakota, personally I think they're lying). Microsoft opted to change the green jewel to the standard design I guess to cut costs. If you have any early issues of the Official Xbox Magazine, you'll sometimes see these controllers pictured...notably there's one of Itagaki-san playing DOA3 on one of those clear DVT Xbox's using a Dakota controller.

I'd hold onto it. It's definitely a neat collectable to own.
