I found the case moulds for M2, but they are pricey. No way I'd be able to make a profit selling empty shells given the asking price.
Out of curiosity how much are they being offered for? I seem to recall a while back the Atari Jaguar moulds, including Jaguar CD, were up for sale at $8,000 :-0. The cost of shipping alone was a good few hundred.
Turn in your credentials at the door, please. The M2 was the planned successor to the 3DO. A few arcade games and industrial kiosks came out based on the hardware, but the home system release never happened.
These being what they are id say even with a fair bit of haggling any kind of profit would be pretty much impossible from producing the cases Are they in the hands of a collector???
If you think a few thousand is expensive, wait until you get the quote for the plastic and the setup time to get them ready for injection molding.
The 3DO was a 32-Bit CD-based video game system released by Panasonic in 1993. It was concieved by that computer genius Trip Hawkins. It competed with the likes of the Atari Jaguar and Sega CD. They first released it in America before releasing it in Japan. Goldstar made their own 3DO system, and so did electronics giant Sanyo, and LG made their own 3DOs for the Korean audiences.
When you say they have the moulds, what do you mean exactly? Like, an empty plastic case? Or like a big metal slab with the shape of an M2 cut out of it?
I would be more excited when the mould for the sega neptune is found. Although it probably does not exist, since the neptune never got to that stage of production.
I had a friend who misused his university metal shop to make titanium N64 analog stick replacements. Before you ask, he didn't keep the CAD files or any information that would allow him to make new ones today.
