Free online FPS?!?!?! hell yeah!!!!!

A buddy of mine showed me this game yesterday, while not the best FPS in the world, it has me completely addicted at the moment:icon_bigg

Go to http://combatarms.nexon.net The game is called Combat Arms. Once again, not the best FPS out there, but it puts many retail FPS games to shame, and who can argue with the price ( FREE!!!!). Anyone who is a fan of online shooters should give it a shot. My name on there is the same as on these forums ( and XBL for that matter) so send me a message if you want to play a match.

What was that free Doom online thing cahaz pointed out years ago? We should all play that or something. Have like a long distance lan!

As for combat arms -this game is garbage. I played it a few months ago with some school friends. the spread on every gun is incredibly random. i was next to a guy, crouched, did a single burst with my cross hair on his head AND I MISSED. took 5 single shot bursts before a headshot counted.

Skulltag! That was it. And Zdaemon. I still didn't try this game out yet.

combat arms looks nice, but both download links show a 404 - not found

and doomsday engine is awesome, don't forget to download and activate alle addons

 

combat arms does indeed look good but as i'm from UK i can't play becuase it only works for US and some other places.

I've been meaning to try that, since Cube was great fun. It was like Quake, but played much faster.

 

All you need is the doom.wad files to use on Doomsday.

Doomsday also works with Heretic and Hexen wads

If anyone wants to play online maybe we could arrange something.

 

Yeah, i kinda figured that was the case, i wish i could find my Doom1 and 2 so i could steal the wads from them. I know the disc is around here somewhere!!! I guarantee the second i go and download the wads the disc will turn up lol.

 

You probably won't have any difficulty to find them online. My Doom2 diskettes were gone, so i got the wad online.

I also have the doom1 shareware wad and a cool audio wad called aliensnd. It replaces most of the sounds for some of the movie Aliens.

Instead of "Uow" from a soldier, they shout "die motherfc..." :lol:

I still haven't been able to find the ultimate doom wad though.

 

I have just tried Saurbraten , and when you are getting 75 solid FPS. And Cube 2 is fast as hell . Then you know you are kicking it.

 

Finally found my Doom CD, Doomsday is great! The only problem im having with it is that in the screenshots ive seen the weapons all look 3d modeled, however on mine they are just upscaled 2d sprites from the original doom. Is there an addon for the 3d weapons?

yeah there's an addon for it.

For editing, ZDoom is the best, I used to use Legacy, but it's so out of date know, ZDoom's decorate and many other scripts make it very easy to edit. Then there's GZDoom, which adds legacy's 3d floors and fragglescript, 3d models and hi-res texture for opengl, it is almost as capable as Doomsday, but not quite as good in quality yet, however, it is very easy to edit and constantly pushing the limits.

For online play, SkullTag is very good, it is also compatible with almost everything GZDoom can do, though falls behind at times, it catches up. The model codes used by GZDoom came from SkullTag.

 

Ahhh, im an idiot, I downloaded all the addons, and forgot to enable them!

After i saw your post i went and enabled them, lol. I must say, it looks pretty nice, low poly counts, but still looks nice. I do almost prefer the look of the upscaled 2d sprites over the look of the 3d models, though.

 

For the 3d models you need to download the extra addon packs.

PS: You can select / deselect the models you don't like on the menu configurations. (before loading the game)

To install place the .pk3 into the "/doomsday/snowberry/addons" folder. Then execute doomsday and select the profile for the game you wish to play and then proceed to the Addons tab. There you will find a new addon category called "Resource Packs", select that folder and in the right-hand (Addons) window, the addons should appear should appear. To enable then, make sure there is a tick in the box next to it in the addons window.

PS: It's just audio modifications, but it's worth it.
