I'm on the look for some free software that can recover stuff lost on a SD card. Probably a hard drive program would work fine as well since SD cards come up as just an external HD on my PC.

Can anyone help out on this? I once knew of one but for the life of me can't remember what it was called.

It's hard to find free software that achieves this. My best solution, if the data is precious, would be to try some software on trial basis to see if it can recover then pick a reasonable priced application to salvage the files. Almost all in my experience won't recover the files unless you pay for it.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

There's TestDisk and Photorec, which are Linux command line utilities. This combo works superbly on lost Jpeg images, but gives many false positives on .doc or .mp3 files.

    Define "Sorted".
What did you end up using?

I'm using File Scavenger V2 which seemed to work quite well.
