Just a friendly reminder that if you have any machines running Windows 7 or 8, you can get the free upgrade to 10 before the 30th of this month (if you haven't already done so). I recommend using Jelly Bean Keyfinder after the install so you can retrieve and note the Product Key for future reinstalls. I have wondered if they'll straight up stop offering the upgrade or just keep it going anyways after the date. Guess we'll find out.
You dont need the key to reinstall, you can install without a key and if the computer was previously activated it detects and activates on its own. But still, handy to have.
I have a feeling they'll extend the time period as well. If not, they'll probably offer a free license with the purchase of other Microsoft products.
You sure they worn't your W7/8 keys? IDK but doesn't really matter since to reinstall you just skip the key input step and let it check your mobo against their database of activated machines.
Yes I'm sure. They make money off the new Store in Windows 10 so it makes sense that they might just keep it going.
All I can say is thank God the upgrade is over. I have one Windows 10 machine with the rest (3 of them) running Windows 7. That stupid automatic windows 10 update bricked one laptop leaving me to wipe the drive and start again from scratch. I ended up installing a blocker to stop the update.
My Windows 10 update went very smoothly. I was very surprised. On top of that I have a custom built gaming PC. I figured there would be problems but there wasn't.
Augh, Windows 10 is kinda garbage. I'd much rather use Windows 7. At least I can do daily computing without dealing with stupid shit like forced automatic updates, start menu not showing up, software refusing to open, serious performance flaws, software compatibility issues etc.
I still use Windows 7 on my main machine. And I used Gwx Control Panel to prevent the auto update to Windows 10. I don't think Windows 10 is bad, I still just prefer sticking with 7 for now.
I just upgraded anyway. >_> Performance feels better than on Windows 7, at least now because this PC is a lot stronger than my laptop. The hidden updates don't bother this PC as much as my laptop did. I eventually had the option to hide the update (which was eventually classified as an important update). A decline button was also added to the GWX program. So I guess that it was all only for Windows 7 Pro?
I may update in a spare Win 7 I have lying around. Don't know. It should take some hours for the process...
