My friend has had his x360 since about a year ago and about 1 month or so ago it started to freeze randomly either running a game from a disco or the hdd, the psu is suspended on the air "bended metal table" so i doubt it's the psu.... is it a goner? should we open it and put same termal grease on the bitch?
Mine does the same thing and I got mine last August or somewhere around there. Its only done it 2 or 3 times so far while playing Oblivion. It will just dead lock, no sound, no control. I just turn it off and wait about 30 seconds and turn it back on and its fine. It may just be my Oblivion disc though because its the only game the 360 does it on and its kinda scratched up. Sometimes when I turn on the 360 with the disc in it the 360 DVD player launchs and I get a message in many diffrent languages saying that to play this game please insert it into a Xbox360 console lol.
Has the 360 been opened up before,if not than just get a replacement. If you have no warranty you can try this fix. http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=594487 I have personally never tried it as I have never had a problem with my 360,but it looks like a really good cheap(money wise)and efficient fix.
Yeh. Try getting a replacement first. If you can't then open it up, clean up the thermal grease there and apply some high quality grease the right way. Here is a site to show you how to effictively apply it to get maximum efficiency. http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_instructions_big2.htm
