    Hi Everyone,

The second batch of Sega Saturn mod boards have arrived from China. The supplier sent a random hodge-podge of chip models, but they all work the same. That is, you connect the ribbon cable, add +5V power, and go. Here are the different models they sent:

Sega Saturn Mod Boards ($14.99 each)

2 Ribbon mod board with chips (No Crystal)

2 Ribbon mod board with chips (Crystal)

    2 Ribbon flat mod board
    [IMG]

    1 Ribbon flat plug-in board
    [IMG]

All chips were tested by the supplier (by hand) and they marked the ribbon cables accordingly. The ribbon cable that goes to the motherboard has been marked with a black arrow (with Chinese sticker). The ribbon cable that is unmarked goes to the CD-ROM.

Given the wide range of chips they sent, I assume they must be running low on parts or something. Some chips have the IC numbers sand-papered off, some have odd shapes, some appear to have empty slots for 20-pin cables (?) and even one I sold had socketed chips! Beats the heck out of me what they were doing! (^_^); But dirty chips of questionable providence is all standard fair in the Chinese black market.

    Shipping will depend on buyers location. Please only buy if you know what your doing. Unfortunately due to the end-of-line nature of these items, I cannot always guarantee a replacement if stock is unavailable. Please do contact me if something doesn't work however, as I will be happy to work with you in order to get a refund. Bare in mind silly things like modifying the boards/ribbon cables and expecting a refund after your experiments fail don't count (^_^);

    Cheers!

UPDATE: It has come to my attention that 64-pin Saturns may have a compatibility issue with these chips. While we do have an experienced member testing this out, I'd probably recommend these chips only for 32-pin machines at this time.

@Everyone: If your intrested in a board, please PM me with your request and shipping address and I'll try to give you a total as soon as possible.

@tubo & softwhere: While some of these boards appear to have mountings, sockets, and space designed for 20-pin use (From layman's eyes anyway), these chips in no way are advertised to work with 20-pin Sega Saturns. Since i'm not experienced with electrical engineering, I can really only assume what the space was meant for.

I purchased one chip, it arrived quickly very well enclosed in a box, wrapped with lots of protective material.

I installed it into a Model 2 32pin Saturn and it didn't require any soldering at all, it worked perfectly right away, definitely recommended!

I got both of mine today but the Saturns they are going into haven't arrived.

I was also under the impression that Trenton_net ran out of boards pretty quickly this last time around. Assuming he still has some on hand I crave more.

I have about 17 units left from this shipment, give or take a few in case of exchanges or returns. I got a lot more units this time to make sure it didn't run out so fast.

AFAIK, there is no real functional difference. Some people like the different styles for looks, some for collecting, and some for reverse engineering. But outside of that, the adverage user won't really care.
