Manufactured May 2000. Finished installing a piggybacked flash chip and flashed Link83's hacked BIOS with the Katana boot-up animation in place of retail. You can of course reflash this however you please. There is a switch in this one that is currently laying coiled up inside next to the fan so if you're like LeGIt and love to fuck with your hardware (I know I do) you can flick the switch and boot up using the retail BIOS featured in the mask rom. Link83's wonderful BIOS also is 100% region free though the Dreamcast has the region set to NTSC-U and has a 120v PSU.

I don't have the switch setup to be accessible without removing the lid mainly for safety reasons (have you had a young niece/nephew/cousin who likes to press buttons for kicks?) but it can easily be mounted.

No cables, no controllers, console only. The only downside to this particular DC is that the lid switch died at some point and apparently I shorted the solder pads (easily reversible). This only really affects multi-disc games though Shenmue thankfully will let you save before forcing a disc swap.

    Asking $50+shipping.

    The pizza is extra.

Glad it looks like you remembered read/write and original or ninja rom switch this time haha - I still haven't found a switch I'd like to mount externally to unfuck mine yet. I was originally looking at one of those round pushswitches, but I think I'll have to sell out and use an SDPT and SPST slider mounted elsewhere :(

Good luck with the sale and to the buyer - remember if you press B in Dreamshell it doesn't go back, it goes forwards instead :p

I spoke to you on another forum about having a system done just like this one. Are you still willing/able to do so? I've got a DC just sitting here waiting to be worked on!

Yes on both counts. I need to pick up more resistors but I should have no problem installing one for you.

    >.> It's so strange that I was pestering you about buying this back in March.. For a technically damaged retail DC, it sure does have a steep price :p

This isn't the same Dreamcast. That one got repaired and sold without a chip, though I apologize for not contacting you beforehand. Now that I have a small stash of chips I can actually install them.

The steep price is related to the cost of the DC itself plus the skill required to install the chip. Not exactly the most difficult project one can undertake but the first time I tried doing this myself I destroyed the chip in the process. Trust me, if the DCs I find didn't cost as much as they do the asking price would be lower. Though I'd love to install a proper lid switch to get this one back to OEM spec.

If you still want one C-Kronos I'll see what I can do about picking up another one. The going rate for installs with the Dreamcast provided is $25, not factoring in the cost of return shipping. Billcosbymon seems quite happy with the job I did on his Dreamcast.

    $25 :-0
That's cheap, I would charge $45 plus return shipping
I know we got a deal on the chips, but labor can be a little time consuming, plus I'm sure you give them a warranty/guarantee for all work done by you.

FYI I have no gripe with APE's work on mine either, It's just a shame he forgot about the BIOS read/write and type swicthes. If Dreamshell's B button didn't work as a forwards button, not a back button as expected, I wouldn't have flashed the wrong BIOS on it :p

I'd buy from APE again though and now he is remembering to add the switches (spurred on from my odd experience haha) the rest of you will have no reason to doubt him too :D

A very good deal and I like to pass on the savings as best I can. I'm contemplating another purchase of chips, perhaps 75-100 chips to see if the price per chip might go down even further. I made $0 from the chips as I aimed to just get what I wanted and make a solid attempt at not losing any money either. Aside from the few requests I had that didn't respond to my last PMs it went extremely smoothly.

$45 is probably extremely reasonable given how much labor is involved in this, especially with troubleshooting.

Yeh there is no way I'm going to forget that one a second time, particularly if one of these goes across an ocean where it wouldn't be cheap to have it returned for a quick fix.

I'm ~2/3rd done with a set of Dreamcast mods Wombat has requested. Chip, internal VGA and internal SD. Extremely labor intensive and pushing my skills to their limits which is helping me to improve them quite a bit. Never built a circuit entirely from scratch only to have it work perfectly the first time.

Bit more on topic: as soon as I get ahold of another Dreamcast there will be another one of these available.

    EDIT:
    Nope. Still available.

the dreamcast looks in awesome condition, and mine broke down a few months ago (stopped reading any disc, i can prob fix it though) so i was looking to buy another one. What's the pricing for shipping it to europe? Also, with the chip i'm guessing it's region free right?

Interesting mod. Any pictures of the solder job/wiring? Where in CA are you located?

This is one I did earlier this year, identical except for the above is missing a switch wired off to the side. I'm about an hour North of San Francisco.

100% region free. Shipping to most of Europe is ~$45 which is 6-10 days with tracking or something like $25 without tracking. Though I'm not willing to take responsibility if the package gets lost in the mail. Had that happen once this year shipping something to Europe. With tracking and insurance I can at least make USPS cough up compensation.

    Consider this abandoned.
