    Hi Folks,

This is more first sales thread here, so I'll give you a bit of background on myself. I've been around the gaming/collecting community for a few years now and have had countless positive transactions on Digital Press, Atari Age, RF Generation, and I currently have 99 transactions on the Nintendoage boards under this same username. I also oversee the Hall of Shame (bad buyers and sellers) on the NA boards.

Now, time for the logistics of this sale...

    What I have:

I purchased this Xbox a while back and I don't know an awful lot about it. It has the typical "prototype" sticker that you would find on debugs and dev kits, and it also has a large "live enabled" sticker on the bottom. The manufacture date is 6/18/2003, which leads me to believe this is a prototype for the DVT 6 hardware.

The stickers on the bottom have not been tampered with, so I am confident that it has never been opened. However, as far as I can tell, it functions like a production XBox and has no dev or debug features available.

This sale is for the system, AV cables, power cord, and 1 first party controller. What you see is what you get.

    Price and whatnot:

I have searched for the past few months to find a comparable sale, and was basically unable to find even a comparable unit. The only other unit I have seen like this is oldengineers "not live enabled" unit, and I don't have any idea of what it was purchased for. I have started price check threads on several forums with very little input, so I have decided to start the unit at $500 shipped in the United States or best offer.

I am VERY open to offers and will drop the price until the unit is sold. Like I said, I am totally unaware of what this should be valued at, so any price suggestions are encouraged and will not be construed as thread crapping.

    Shipping:

I am willing to ship this world wide. The price is $500 shipped, USPS insured priority mail in the United States. I will ship internationally in a large USPS flat rate shipping box at the buyer's expense.

Please contact me with any questions you may have, and thanks for looking!

EDIT: SOLD to Pitsunami, thanks to all who were interested!!!

    First price drop bump...

Now down to $400 shipped in the US, additional shipping everywhere else. Like I said, I'm going to continue to lower the price in large chunks until this sells, so don't be afraid to make an offer!

A Live Beta kit would not run retail games.

I thought for sure it was a Live Beta Kit until I booted a retail disc on it no problem. Like I said, I'm not fully sure what I've got here, but I do know that I haven't seen many things like this.

Again, if anyone has any more info on this unit or a rough estimate for how much I should be charging for the unit (I will not increase my price based on numbers I hear, only decrease) feel free to post it here as I'd love to know more.

    Thanks for the responses guys!

Based on the description of the item, I believe you have a prototype validation unit for a retail Xbox. It should function just like a retail unit, but would have been produced before full production on that specific model started in order to verify that everything was being made to spec. It is possible that there may be some small changes in parts between your unit and a final retail, but more than likely what you have should be near identical to a retail unit.

    Hope this helps.

    Price drop #3 folks...

$225 shipped in the US, add shipping everywhere else! I'd laso trade this thing straight up for some NES protos (or proto) that I don't have.

I don't know how many have made it out, but the DVT moniker is common to the electronic goods industries.

There are a few common levels based on what you're talking about. Not every company uses the same levels, but they are generally consistent.

EVT - Electrical (or Engineering) Validation Test; This is generally applied to an early hardware run. It is made to ensure that the basic internals work. Plastics and case mouldings are usually rough, if they exist at all. Firmware is usually at a very barebones level. These are typically assembled by hand.

CVT - Circuit Validation Test; This is similar to EVT, but at a higher level and further down the development pipline. Plastics are usually in the proper shape and fit, but lacking polish. This will run off an early assembly line test. The early shots of the PS3 slim back in May of this year were likely from CVT hardware.

DVT - Design Validation Test; This is usually a fully working model, though there is the possibility of changes before final production. Changes do not always happen and if they do, they are typically minor (such as swapping out a memory part). A major flaw at this stage is VERY bad. Firmware should be final or near final.

PVT - Production Validation Test; This is essentially final, retail hardware. These are typically the first units off the production line which are then tested to ensure everything is working correctly before giving the signoff and rolling into full production. It is essentially the hardware equivalent of a Dreamcast "white label."

Again, not every company will use every label. For example, PVTs may simply be produced as final retail units rather than being designated PVT. Sometimes the difference is due to company policy. Sometimes it is due to testing and labeling (if something is a final design, but hasn't passed regulatory testing, then it will officially be a DVT or PVT rather than a "final" unit).

I'm only posting these abbreviations as guidelines since you asked and since I'm sure there are others out there who may have run across them before on various prototypes and wondered what the terms meant.

For specific definitions, you really have to go PER COMPANY, as one company's term may very slightly from another, but anyone in the consumer electronics space shoud know the concepts.
