FS: Neo Geo Pocket Flash Linker set & Dreamcast Link

Discussion in 'The ASSEMblergames Marketplace' started by Sweater Fish Deluxe, Nov 28, 2005.

  1. Hi all, I'm selling my NGPC Flash Linker set with a 32Mb cartridge. Here's a couple pics:

As you see, the set is complete and boxed, which seems to be pretty rare. I don't know if most people just threw away the boxes or if some distributors didn't even sell the set boxed (I got mine directly form the manufacturer), but most if not all of the linkers I've seen for sale are just bare units. If the buyer wants it, I can also include a CDR burned with a complete set of flashing tools, a development kit, homebrew games (including some that are not publicly available) and source code.

The Flash Linker is a really nice item. I sort of regret having to part with mine even though I hardly use it (or my NGPC) anymore. I used mine mostly for homebrew and in my opinion, that's the best reason to own one. There's really a lot of cool homebrew games for the NGPC and a linker is the only way to play them properly. Homebrews like Shufflepuck Cafe, Puzzle Gems, Dodger and Bomberman are really some of the best games on the system.

The linker can also be used with commercial games, though, of course. You can flash ROMs onto the 32M cart either for outright piracy or to create a second cart for playing 2 player games. Or you can use the linker with standard NGPC games and back them up. You can also back up just the save data form a cartridge so that it can be re-written later (this, for instance, allowed me to back up my Ganbare save with the E page unlocked, so that I could initialize the cart and start over, but still be comfortable in the knowledge that I could re-write the completed save to the cart at a later date).

All in all, just a very useful device. Pretty much a must have item for all the Neo Poke fans remaining on this board.

I also have a Dreamcast-to-NGPC link cable for sale:

It is of course used with the small handful of cross-compatible Dreamcast and Neo Poke games that SNK released. The features the cable unlocks in the respective games are in no way impressive or interesting, but the cable is still a must have for all you completist collector types that paid $300 for Pocket Reversi.

I'd like to get $150 for the Flash Linker set and $30 for the Dreamcast link cable, but I'm open to all offers, so feel free to e-mail me if you have any interest in the items. Contact me : sweater@fishhoo.com

I also have an interesting Famiclone-in-a-controller system for sale:

It doesn't have any games built in, but comes with a 76-in-1 cartridge that's just a bare PCB. It's the standard 76 (or 68, really) games seen on most of these Famiclone systems, I can e-mail a list if you want to know the specific titles. The design of this system is pretty nice; the cartridge port is on top just behind face and four AAs go where the VMU would be. The lameness is that the Playstation looking dpad is actually four separate buttons not connected at all, which is fine in some games, but I imagine it would be not quite playable in others. Light gun is built into the main controller and the set comes with a second player controller as shown, as well as an AC adapter, AV cables and the 76-in-1 cartridge, all boxed up in a silly pirate box.

    $25 for that.

Im in the US, but more than willing to ship overseas for any of this stuff.

Last one I saw (on ebay) was a set of NPG, NPGC, NGP Linker kit, ppcable. All boxed except for the linker (flash cart was). It went for 87$usd.

Just a FYI so people know what they go for as they arent seen very often.

  3. Heh, oops. Well, I'm obviously not looking to rip anyone off. I got the $150 number from looking at other linker sets I'd seen for sale on other forums. However, I have no proof that those people eer actually sold their linkers at that price and those listing were somewhat old anyway. I checked eBay, too, but didn't find any listings from within the last few months, so I went with the $150 price, which seemed somewhat valid since I believe it's about what I paid for mine when I bought it new years ago.

Anyway, if it's worth less, I'll certainly take less, so everyone should feel free to send whatever offer they think is fair if they're interested in the set.

  4. I'd absolutely LOVE to take that flash linker off of your hands, but if your asking price is $150 and a recent eBay sale was $87, I doubt my offer would look appealing - I could spare $40, possibly $50 at most in a few weeks. Oh well. :(

  5. If I just wanted to get rid of the thing, I probably would take that offer eventually if I didn't get any others, but I'm a bit torn about selling the set because I still love my Neo Poke and the homebrew games for it and even think I might someday like to return to development on my own homebrew game that I was working on. So, the set has a certain value to me and I just won't sell it for less than a certain amount. I'm not exactly sure what that amount is, but too be honest, I don't really wouldn't sell it for $90 or even $100. I haven't gotten any offers other than yours, though, so maybe I won't ever have to decide what my lowest price point is.

By they way, it's not shown in the pictures and I forgot to mention above that I also have the necessary parallel port cable for the Flash Linker set and it's included in the deal. Not that a parallel cable is a big selling point, but many parallel cables don't carry the proper signals for this function or else they are too long (which causes signal degradation and errors), so it's good to get one you know will work and that yu won't have to go hunting around for the right cable after you've got the Linker.
