FS: Nintendo DDH Unit with XG3 Extreme G Racing BETA

3/3/07 -- 2 UPDATES

#1) There is a playable BETA of Acclaim's XG3 Extreme G Racing on the disc!!! From the looks of it, the beta lets you move around 1 track and has a few debugging options.







#2) The internal 4 Gig IDE drive appears to be dying. It will need to be replaced.
I can put the contents of the drive onto a dvd if its desired.

Details: I was taking a look at file sizes earlier today and noticed one folder held a whooping 6 Terabytes of data!! Scandisc fixed the problem temporarily, but shortly after, the same problem re-emerged. I copied all salvageable data on the disc to a second 4 Gig disc I happened to have lying around and plugged that into the DDH to test if the DDH was the cause of the disc errors. I repeatedly ran the demos on the DDH and shutdown/restarted the computer 10x in a row. No problems whatsoever with the new disc. And it was also on this disc that the acclaim demo played for the first time.

I then went back and tried doing a full reformat of the original disc to see if that would fix it. After rebooting the DDH, the disc reported folders holding 11 Gigs of data! So in short, it looks like this drive will need to be replaced with a cheap $5 4 gig IDE drive.

My closets crammed, and this is my backup DDH unit that ive never used, so im putting it up for sale. Top sticker says HW2 System D5, ORCA rev 2.0A (J). Front of the unit says Dolphin Development Hardware and has the Nintendo Dolphin logo.





As far as I can tell from the 20 minutes ive tinkered with it, its in working order. When first powered on the internal fans a bit noisy compared to my other unit, but it quiets down after about a minute. The status indicator LED displays an 8 (Good) and I dont get any errors posted when I hook up the COM port and start a hyperterminal session. I am also able to run some demos located on the hard drive and they output to my tv screen just fine.








The hard drive also contains a couple of other projects, all of which cant be run due to missing files (either erased by the original developer or lost due to the IDE drive problem).

450US is the price for a DDH+Marlin, loose DDH units have been seen in the wild for about 100GBP =~200 USD.

 

I beg to differ. You'ld be hard pressed to find a marlin for $400 or less. I know, I've tried. Considering "complete" sets usually go for over a grand on e-bay, and OE traded/sold one for this price recently, I'd say that Klarth is about right on. However, finding someone willing to buy just a DDH is the difficult part (again, I know as I am trying such a thing myself).

 

Well I guess I should have bought those two DDH for 100GBP each then

Nevertheless, as you said, selling a DDH on its own is a hard task. Prices are not government-regulated or anything, so it's purely a matter of supply and demand. When demand is low, this is/should be reflected in the price if there's any cash flow to take place.

 

$450 for a Marlin&DDH??? PM me if you see that on ebay :dance: ! Personally ive never seen the combo go for under $1000 plus shipping.

As for the DDH though, I looked up how much I originally paid for it and I decided to slash the price down to $300+shipping. I cant find any recent DDH ebay sales, and the last time I saw one sell on ebay (no marlin), it was well over 200 USD. If anyone whose interested still thinks $300's high, im open to offers like I said up above...

 

I don't want to speak on behalf of others, but I think Parris might want to take a look at this sale klarth. It's a bit late UK-time-wise though, so don't worry for the lack of interest from this side of the globe yet

Updated Info -

1) Acclaim BETA is on the hard drive
2) IDE Drive will need to be replaced. I am fairly certain there is nothing wrong with the DDH and that the disc problems are related to the IDE drive itself. See the first post for more info.
