    Hi Everyone,

I have up for sale an assortment of Sega Saturn VCD Cards. While I don't have an actual Saturn to test these on, I'm assuming these work on Japanese or Asian territory machines. They come in an assortment of versions, with varying degrees of ware. Some look just fine while some have cosmetic damage. In most instances it just means a slightly dented shell, but sometimes the dents or bends may be more serious. I assume you can just bend them back into shape?

Sega Saturn VCD Cards (Assorted, Japanese) - Asking $19.99 per card.

This is just a sample displaying the models of cards I have in stock. Of course, I have much more than 3 units. Payment can be made by PayPal. Unfortunately given the fact that I don't have a Saturn to test these with, they are being sold untested and as-is.

    Cheers!

UPDATE: I should mention that for whatever reason, there is only a few Hitachi MPEG daughter cards available in the lot. The majority of cards are JVC or Victor units. For what it's worth, I think the Victor and JVC cards have more features anyway so most won't care. Both the JVC and Victor cards are RG-VC20 models. The only difference is that the JVC is labelled in English, while the Victor cards are labelled in Japanese.

Thanks Ape, I always thought Sega was ahead of time on Sega saturn and Dreamcast. It would be cool if can play a full film on Sega Saturn If modder's can do it.

You need a card matching the console's and disc's region. Only American model Saturns lack official support, cards weren't sold for them.

@APE: These aren’t tested, but I don't really have a problem working with people for exchanges. Provided it isn't one of the physically damaged ones, as long as your cool with sending the dead unit back it should be just fine. I just put the disclaimer to prevent abuse, unrealistic expectations, or having to deal with difficult people who can't read. :)

@dj898: I'm not sure if any of the specific models on sale can do CD+G, but I own one which definitely does. I think it's a Victor v3.0. The Victor Twin Operator cards also run Kodak Photo CDs without the need of the software disk sold in Japan. I think the only major difference from the older cards vs the newer cards is that the newer cards can also support PAL video as well. If your running an older card which doesn't support PAL, you'll get green macro-blocks that appear when it tries to render the extra lines on a PAL disc. Many people tend to think Chinese VCDs are just bad and don't work well with Japanese VCD cards, but in truth, it's just because the one they have is encoded in PAL. Generally titles from HK are NTSC, where as the mainland uses PAL.

Curious to see how well it works with the region free BIOS.

That'd be good to find out. I did place a VCD card in the white JP Saturn we've talked about modding off & on.

They are working perfectly either on a region free modded Saturn or with cartridges like STKey or Action Replay. I can use my PAL card on an NTSC system or vice versa.

Sega Saturn can natively play CD+G discs, no need for any accessories. You can select it on the main menu.

Video CD discs are MPEG 1 files authored by a software (Nero can do it) to be run on a compatible player (CDI, SS, 3DO with cards, or DVD players can play them). NTSC discs contain 352x240 Video, PAL discs are 352x288. Way back then there were some VCD movies produced by Vivid in US, also in Europe Philips manufactured some movies for its CDI system (can't remember if they were released in US too). But not a very popular, mainstream format in the west.
After DVD players became popular they were phased out I think. Saturn Video CD card came bundled with a demo disc in Europe. Those original discs are way higher quality than amateur ones.
I heard one time intelligence agencies were using them in some countries for catalyzing the revolution. Because it's cheap to duplicate and players were inexpensive. People watching the western culture, then affected blah blah. It's also popular in far east afaik.

Ah, unfortunately shipping is extra. But I ship from Canada, so the price will depend on your location. If your inside Canada, it should be pretty cheap. If your in the US expect to pay slightly more. And if your in some extreme location like Thailand or something, perhaps a bit more than that? <Shrugs>.

They are coming straight from Asia, right ? If so, did you also get some bootleg ones ? I am looking for the ones I don't already have.

These are coming from Asia, but the models in the current lot extend to only those pictured in the original posting. I don't have any 3rd party VCD cards at this time.
