his stock photo is a grey cart and the item says it uses a grey cart

    http://www.retrousb.com/product_info.php?cPath=29&products_id=103

The lost levels guys were kinda iffy on the legality all things considered, the game was released in 2010 and is still available for purchase directly from Nintendo on the vc. Also as far as anyone can tell they did not have access to the original source and were forced to implement a ton of hacks into the rom in order to insert the pie factory level back in, which definitely took someone a decent amount of work on Nintendos end unless they outsourced to a rom hacker, who I can only assume is under NDA since noones ever come forward as having done the work. That is definitely biting into profits more than repros which haven't seen retail availability in decades.

Though realistically any repro is pretty sketchy to begin with, I enjoy making repros for myself and others, but I do see a serious issue with the fact that people are basically throwing someone elses hard work (translations, hacks, etc) into a cart without them seeing any of the resulting profit margin.

Wasn't there a rule about flaming against threads like this? I mean I understand that many people disagree as has been made clear here. He clearly stated it was a repro as required by the rules. Shouldn't there be an update to the rules if that's not enough?

So have the rules about reproductions changed? I asked you awhile back about it, at that time it was just no sales of any reproductions. Is it now ok so long as it is clearly labeled a reproduction?

I do agree with the comments that particularly for a game like this, you should have on the label itself the word "Reproduction" so no one confuses it with an extremely valuable original copy.

That game is a promotional item. Not directly sold, or released in USA.

The only two ways to get it are:
buying a specially marked PAL region Wii console
Japan had to wait over 18 months. finally arriving for them on 3DS by buying New Super Mario Bros 2 digital edition

not sure how that negates the questionable legality of the item

I never said it doesn't. Just inconveniences potential US buyers who would like to have it legal.

Even if it's not in the rules officially yet, this statement is good enough for me. His site, his rules.

I thought that what was being taken issue with wasn't the legality of reproductions, just that the repro being made would be bad for the collectors market because it'd be so easy to mistake one for being genuine? An issue none of Retrousb's repros have because they're all clearly marked as such.

On a personal note, I don't much see the point in a reproduction of Stadium Events, since you could just buy a copy of World Class Track Meet for maybe $2, and as far as I'm aware the two are identical apart from the label on the cartidge.

All that would have to happen is change
"Cannot be sold unless stated as eprom, home made, or bootleg. (Esp. Neo Geo)"
    to
"Cannot be sold unless stated as eprom, home made, or bootleg and marked as such (Esp. Neo Geo)"

I just get annoyed with unspoken rules. Now assembler has said where he stands on this and just needs to update the rules accordingly so that all future seller/buyers are aware.

So you think it's bad that someone would take a hack that someone released for free and make a profit from it, but you're happy to make a profit from a commercially released game which people slaved over for months?

It's not a grey area - I'll put it in black and white for you. There is copyright on this game, REGARDLESS of whether the thing is still in the shops, or the console on which you play it. As you yourself said, Nintendo are still releasing games on VC and this technically could be released.

How about the rules are clarified to - NO REPRODUCTIONS? Simple. I for one don't want to see them on here.

Sorry if you feel targeted, but you have to appreciate that people COULD buy them from you here then palm them off on eBay as the genuine article. It also damages the value of the genuine cart.

We're collectors. This is a forum for collectors. By doing this sort of thing, you're potentially damaging the name of the forum and the value of your fellow collectors' items. Yeah, we've moaned about, probably even reported, people such as the one you pointed out for making fakes before - don't worry. Still, it's the fact that you're doing it on the site that irks people. Surely you can understand that?

I'm not going to for the obvious reason that their repro *is* clearly marked as reproduction. Note the Retrozone logo and use of non-standard fonts:

All of Retrozone's repros have a Retrozone logo on them, and most have the Nintendo seal modified too. I'm not necessarily saying I support what they're doing, but they *are* making clear what their cartridges are.

I'm not trying to pitchfork you either: I don't have a problem with you selling repros on here (especially when you clearly state is repro), and I praise the effort you've put in to preserve the original art. However, as myself and others have said, the problem is that without an inherent fault in its design one of your carts could be mistaken for a real item and some poor collector gets suckered in.

I'm not necessarily saying it'll be on purpose: it could be something as innocent as a collector buying your cart, then gets knocked down by a bus. A well-meaning family member resells their collection on eBay, and suddenly your 'repro' is being mistaken for the genuine article.

Honestly, we're not asking for extreme measures here - just something to make this cartridge identifiable that doesn't involve a screwdriver or a written history of its' past. The easiest solution is putting the word 'reproduction' on the front of the label somewhere. Nothing fancy, and doesn't have to be obtrusive. Just... something clear so that people don't get crushing disappointment if they buy it off eBay in several years time, and sellers don't get in trouble for selling it as 'real'.

I think the actual game matters also. There's numerous more interesting titles to display label expertise with. How about a what-if US SNES Kirby Kira Kira Kids? I might just ask around about that one...

But couldn't this be the same for the sale of another game here at the forum (I am not sure if I can write the game name)? Isn't there copyright on that game? Is it not a reproduction? Did it not damage the value of fellow collectors'? Couldn't any person that purchased one palm it off on eBay as the genuine article?

retro's opinion is retro's - what assembler is doing on his site is up to him.

Assembler has already made it clear in the rules that this is OK, he's also said in this thread to change the label (rather than take down the sale thread).

Current orders will ship by the weekend

Someone inquired about repros of other games (specifically EB Zero and Outlands), I will make any NES repro for which I can easily obtain donor parts at the $20 shipped price, pricing changes in circumstances where the donor may be much pricier than what I'm getting them for (ie. english Famicom Wars as only a small set of famicom games uses that mapper, same with Final Fantasy III as you need a specific SMB2 revision). Leads on shipping are subject to EPROM availability on hand but I have a decent stock atm.

Well great. If there are gonna be plenty more than usual loose Stadium Events popping up on ebay someday, we will know where they came from. Thanks a lot for destroying the NES collector's market and also great how it's being tolerated here.

Why not fake some more Neo Geo games? Larger profit margin, ever considered that? Oh boy, what money could you make with fake Metal Slugs and Blazing Stars... and any counterargument is invalid because there have been games like Bang Bang Busters. No Problem! Trololol

If that wasn't clear enough: Your fake SE cartridges are full of shit and if you don't get the striking difference betweem them and the RetroZone DK carts, you got to be blind.

All people are asking you to do is change the label of your carts so people can identify your carts as repros I don't see why your giving everyone a hard time about doing something so simple. Also since it's very clear to me that your not going to comply with ASSEMbler's instructions to change the label I personally believe a marketplace ban is in order for insubordination.
