Sorry to derail:

I've got one of these but haven't actually got round to testing it yet. I understood that you could use a swap trick to play the VCDs in the same way that you could play any region/CD-Rs with an action replay device.

Am I right or missing something?

 

From what I understand (Correct me if I'm wrong), these things are simply external devices that piggy back the PSX for the CD-ROM. That's why you need to use it's own AV out, as well as use a mod chip or swap trick to get it to work.

The Saturn on the other hand actually had an expansion port for an MPEG daughter card and was designed with VCD playback in mind. I suspect the PSX VCD adapter to be significantly worse in quality.

 

that's true and you have these limitations with all PSX Video CD addons.
However you can control video playback (stop, pause,next track, etc) with the PlayStation gamepad.
