I got the chance of a Tomb Raider debug of a very early title in a pretty early stage of development. Sadly, it fell through after I scrambled to find a Katana kit to run it on. However, I traded the unit for some spare items in the knowledge that it was faulty, but for good measure Royal Mail decided that one fault wasn't enough... it came with a damaged PCB!

It was a minor repair, however even despite 2 fully qualified electrical engineers giving the electronic components and all aspects of the unit a clean bill of health (a kind of this SHOULD work, but we don't understand why it doesn't) I had totally lost interest and gave up! The real reason for me wanting the kit had disappeared.

So, here is 1 faulty (don't even ask me HOW it is faulty) Katana kit.

It may assist someone out in the World who currently has a Katana kit needing spares. You may be more confident than me, it might very well be something very stupid and straight forward, or it may be a book end on a shelf forever more!

It switches on, and gives me nowt other than a few lights coming on. The whole sorry tale is here: http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15264 and includes images.

I am looking for a trade within the UK if possible, but would consider elsewhere. Trade for anything to the value of £50 accepted, or £50 cash. Let me know what you got, we take take it from there. Remember to take into consideration P&P! On-HOLD - Dreamcast TM (funnily enough!)

I'll even throw in "Spawn" (Japanese title) and the Blue LE controller, which is also boxed!

I am quite interested. How much would shipping to the United States cost?

Sorry, Dreamcast TM PM'd me first and asked me to check postage to US for him. If he is not interested then I shall let you know.

Blimey, it is faulty guys! All noted and if subsequent deals fall through (probably due to shipping costs more than anything else) then I shall work my way through the queue.

Blimey, there is a bigger queue waiting for this broken Katana than there was on launch night waiting for the Playstation 3 ! ;-)

Sadly, it's not the length of time you've been looking / waiting, but the speed of your PM to the seller.

which version is it? i have a faulty 5.24 (?) which has a fried DA, i could probably really use it to fix mine and create a completely broken one to give away. :)

If you know you could get the disc running on a retail without the need of a System-Disc 2 using the Swap Trick!

    I'm sure either:

    A.)
The unit is prolly just stuck in emulation mode since I don't see it mentioned anywhere that it was ever connected to a PC via SCSI (but don't take my word on it)! ;)

    B.)
    You need to reflash it.

    C.) If it's in GD-ROM mode
If you have the Windows CE Dreamcast SDK 2.1 installed, then you might also have to "resuscitate" the Dev.Box with the "Dreamcast Tool" program. I have to use that every single time I power-on my Dev.Box, regardless of if it's in GD-ROM mode or Emulation Mode. I just recently discovered that that can be changed in the "DA Check" program, located in the Katana SDK - Release 9/10.1.

I know the self-test on my site did not work for someone else with a Dev.Box, yet they were able to get it working after they received their SCSI adapter & reflashed it. If non of those work, then yeah, the DA board is fried.

Thanks Mark, your advice and information is really welcome, and I am sure you are correct, however I'd really prefer someone more interested in the Dreamcast to get their hands on it. If it is something straight forward then I'd be pleased for them. My real interest lay in viewing early Tomb Raider debug and potentially producing some MIDI music (not for TR ;-)). I can do both on other consoles. I think I spent enough money & wasted too much time (and put 2 friends through the hell of checking over the unit with a fine tooth comb) on it.

Good luck to the final owner, you might be getting a real bargain! I truly hope it's not dead as it would be great to have another DC developer out there!

Please note that you either need to put it for trades or a price. "Offers over £xxx" for cash are not allowed.

It did have £50 where it is now RED as it is on Hold pending postal costs, but I forgot to change the other part that said "Offers over the value of £50" as that was really meant to ensure I didn't get someone say "I'll give you £10" as frankly I want someone to get it that can really put it to some use, but get some of my money back on it. I am actually taking a loss on this one :-(

Its ok i just sounded like you wanted offers over £50. Its ok to say looking for trades in the value region of £xxx and over. However if your taking cash it needs to be a firm price. You can say £XX and no lower offers.
