I'm just gonna put this here, even though it's not funny (and I'm still pretty much hoping it's not real): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27RVJJfny4I

How come everyone else can just release a movie in a remastered form on a new format, but George Lucas just has to add new unnecessary shit every time? Plus, it's more proof that he doesn't know the meaning of the word "subtlety". At this point, he could've just as well made Vader shout "I WILL SAVE YOU, MY SON!"

I believe I read they confirmed that in an official press release.

I wouldn't care as long as they include the original unedited theatrical version as well, but they probably won't.

By theatrical you mean theatrical Special Edition or the original? If we were to believe Lucas, the original movies are in such a bad shape that you can't even make DVD quality copies anymore (of course, he's usually full of shit)

I can't remember if I've had this conversation here or somewhere else.

Anyway, why can't they just dig up a 35mm print and scan that? They must exist somewhere, maybe in the hands of a collector. They could buy that and scan it. It's not like Lucasfilm is hurting for money nowadays. It'd probably have dust and scratches, etc., but that'd still be about 1,000 times better than the crappy "remastered" edition they want to cram down our throats.

Talking about Star Wars, which is the best version of the original trilogy available? There are so many different versions available out there, I don't know which one to pick. I've heard some good things about some Fan Edits too, which one would you recommend?

There's a DVD release with the original theatrical versions included, however the quality is terrible. You're honestly best off getting the new Blu-Ray versions since they obviously have the best quality, and I highly doubt there will ever be a decent quality release of the original versions.

The dude is a crock nowadays. He needs to stop screwing with everything.

I can't even watch my favorite of his, THX 1138, in it's "remastered" form.

I think it has been posted before, but:

I'll stick to a nice VHS or LD (the unadulterated non-special edition was on LD, right?).

You can get the original theatrical releases on dvd in this pack:

    http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Trilogy-Widescreen-Theatrical/dp/B001EN71DG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1315940825&sr=8-3

It's the only way to watch the TRUE originals on DVD. Only probably is, the special editions are in widescreen. While the originals, which are the bonus disc as a special feature, are 4:3 letterbox format with an apsect ratio of 2.35:1.

Good luck trying to find it at a decent price, though. Plus, as I said the original versions look like shit, might as well get the VHS versions for free at your local dump.

WHOA. I didn't even look at the prices...

I got mine at Wal*Mart a few years ago for about $30. Glad I got 'em when I did. :-0

I don't care if my movie looks sub-par in comparison to some new release. I don't want the hard muscle work of many amazing people covered up by some fucking computer-generated bullshit just because Mr. L has some permanent sand in his vagina.

People need to realize the value in special effects VS visual effects: truly creative work by a team of individuals working with their hands VS a bunch of us tired nerds sitting around clicking a mouse for 60 hours a week. Akin to painting on a canvas VS painting on a Wacom.

Guys, there's a version of the original Star Wars out there that blows away ANY official release. The maker has spent years cleaning up the colour of the remastered versions, removing crap. Fixing the HanSolo mess and so on. When I get home I'll find the title name then you can all get it from Pirate bay or something.
