http://au.news.yahoo.com/technology...7737/2/the-best-of-the-worst-fakes-and-scams/ Very very sneaky... I think they threw some bolts in there to simulate a HDD's weight
Really if you go to China and you find something that looks really cheap then alarm bells should be ringing, especially if you buy the goods from a market. Most hardware today is sealed in a way that means if it has been returned then you should check the contents, when I buy expensive hardware I insist on the seals being there and do open up expensive things in the shop in front of the cashiers to make sure they are complete and working. If the shops refuse then I do not go ahead with the purchase. To a shop, I am sure some of these scams are down to the people buying them and then returning them saying "I got a brick..." and I am sure some shops do open up the goods in front of you to show you the contents. I do remember fake auctions that used to be in the UK (they are banned now) where they would auction off a "Gameboy" and once you bought the very cheap item, you would get a box and bundled out, and when you opened it you had something that looked like a Gameboy that played a single or a couple of LCD games.
I used to idle in #fw on EFNet quite a bit, plenty of idiots in there used to openly discuss what they termed "Wal-Mart swaps". Their 360 would RROD, they'd drive down to Wal-Mart, buy another to swap them and return it. Given Wal-Mart's untarnished reputation I'd assume they'd send it back to Microsoft for replacement.... After a while Wal-Mart started to compare serial numbers on the console and box. The idiots then got pretty creative about swapping just the guts and had some interesting methods for how to not rip the warranty stickers. Shame they didn't bother putting what little brains they had to better use, perhaps they wouldn't have to commit what was likely a felony if they could score a better job.
LOL! I remember seeing these some months ago; definitely funny to read, not so if it happens to you...

I bought from DX and would definitely buy again... Although I can't really afford that SSD right now. I doubt that you'll get a case full of rocks (or similar); worse case scenario, it'll stop working sooner than expected.
