I've been thinking about those high price titles for our beloved Saturn, DC and PS1 and it hit me that why not start the thread about the current next-gen titles that are on sale you reckon will be next wave of collectors titles once these consoles are phased out. I'm talking about Xbox, GameCube, PS2 here. Also let's stick to the retail copies or any gift titles that came with the retail copies. Otherwise it will be messy with all sorts of promo and beta copies... I will start with Xbox that I know of. AirForce Delta :from what I heard no many member of this was printed Kakutochojin JPN - initial release :the one released in Japan with the religious BGM was pulled off the shelf pretty quickly and replaced with altered version Kabuki Warrior :frankly I never saw one other than JPN version but heard it was released in PAL and possibly in US as well Sneakers PAL/US :never saw one for sale since Xbox launch here in Sydney For GameCube all I know are: Zelda bonus disc :The pre-order bonus disc StarWars RS3 preview disc :the one with StarWars arcade retro game cheers
Disgaea: Hour of Darkness (PS2) How about the first round of Sega releases for the PS2 like REZ and Ferrari F355 Challenge. Personally I try to keep my eye on those cult RPG's like Disgaea...
hehehe , i already have my 3 master quest version , one to play, the other is sealed its the first time i'm in advance in collecting i have the four zelda games on disc too . but don'T have one sealed.... :smt009 suikoden 3 , and legend of legaia 2 for ps2 will be collecting games... they are rare by theses days , so imagine in 7 years . the halo 2 collector....... a good choice for the future too. :smt023 the first ed. of the gataway. collecting games will be rarer on this gen , and the other future gen. because of the industry , now they only make sure titles , sequels to games . no inovations or risk.... only big sequels . and the marketting is better.too.
Woo hoo! I'll sit on my copy for 20 years then sell it on to the next generation... :smt043 I'm wondering if any preview/demo discs for PS2 will fetch any money. I currently have the Skygunner, Front Mission 4, and Gran Turismo 4 Toyota Prius discs, and I'm wondering if they might be worth something. And definately the non-greatest hits versions of games are going to be a little more sought after.... I'm also kindof wondering if any games that are currently out will ever reach Radiant Silvergun/Panzer Dragoon Saga/Dracula X status in price. I've noticed Ikaruga DC has been climbing a bit, to an average of $60 or so, as opposed to about $45 when I got mine a year back. Whatever happens, I hope I'm the current owner of some future expensive games... :smt040
. I'm trying to limit to current next-gen consoles so no DC or Saturn. let's concentrate to GameBoy Advance, GameCube, Xbox, and PS2 only... cheers
This can't be too hard, just think of offbeat games that are good, but don't generally appeal to the masses... I happened to be thinking about Ikaruga too...but the Gamecube one is pretty common... Oh...Kabuki Warriors...It's pure crap. It's total bargain bin material. I don't even think it's uncommon.
. I was referring to PAL version as I haven't seen one myself... like they say if something's so bad it's bound to be good... no? cheers
The Zelda Master Quest promo will be rare but I don't think it will fetch as much as some people think. The Zelda: Collectors Edition game even less. The same goes for anything labeled as "special edition" or "collectors edition". They still make a ton of those games. They might cost a little more but not necessarily be any more rare in the end. I also think in time there will be just as many collectable games for this system generation and the next as there are for past systems. Companies like Konami and Treasure don't set out to make these games reach the level of collectability and price that they are now. Their goal is to sell as many copies of their games and hopefully put it at the collectability of Super Mario Bros. What really makes a game reach the level of say Radiant Silvergun or Dracula X is that they were quality games with low print levels that just got looked over the first time. Now people are going back and trying to get what the missed out on. Simple supply and demand. The best advice I can give at looking for collectable games is look of for fun games in categories with small but hardcore fanbases. Categories like shooters and strategy rpg's. Strange and really innovative games that another to look out for. Look for good games that come out near the end of a systems life when most people have moved on to the next generation. Also the better games on poor selling systems tend to be collectable. It's all hit or miss though.
Not to split hairs or anything, but don't you think the DC should be counted among the next-gen consoles? I know the Saturn doesn't count, but despite it's being 'dead', the DC had more in common with and was competing with the current crop of PS2, GC, and XBrick. I just don't see it fitting in with the PSX/Saturn/N64 very well.....
. I know... but I wanted to limit to the consoles currently on sale... besides i think for DC similar thread has been done to death... cheers
Games with most value tend to be famous company releases ridiculous special editions series themed games ultra rare even at release exclusives Such as: Anything treasure. Gold working designs prize guncon. Any mint unopened final fantasy game that was GOOD rare games like stell batallion, the even more rare re-release units, Toys r us only saturn, star wars n64, etc. People who collect older games for a lot of money buy things that were cherished when new. No one will be lining up for war gods, or "the sims" They will want thing like "metal gear box" or radiant silvergun. I predict that that damn game will be the first normally $1000 + game. Give it a few decades and it'll be thousands more. Old rich men have to spend money on something.
Steel Battalion with controller, Onimusha Soul controller (big samurai sword thing), Final Fantasy Tiny Bee controller. In fact, the first lot of Tiny Bees are getting quite high priced now, iirc....
How about ltd edition GBA and GBA SP's , limited edition ps2,gamecube and x-boxes like the PD orta one of the final fantasy gba and cube ?
Yep, these ltd edition versions of consoles could be worth getting. *strokes FinalFantasyTactics GBA SP boxset and giudebook :smt033 * All the different DCs are fetching high prices now. Not sure if anyone will be interested in different coloured PS2s tho. Most of the different GBA/SPs and Dreamcasts are interesting and cool, but a coloured PS2 well, isn't.
I have Kabuki Warrior, not a great game... went to the discount bin pretty fast. One of the first releases for the system here.
From a US perspective: Air Force Delta was released at launch and quickly pulled. For whatever reason, most Gamestop/EB stores have begun selling the game again as of last year and the game can be had again for under $30 new. Kakuto Chojin was recalled and never sold again shortly after release here in the States. All EB and Gamestop stores don't even carry used copies. You can still get the game at some independent game stores, but it's not something you see often here. Kabuki Warriors was the US XBOX's first bargain bin title. Easily found even today for less than $5. Sneakers is a Toys R Us exclusive here in the USA released around November 2002. I have a copy and it's a dreadful game. Some Toys R Us stores still have unsold copies of this game which they've tried to clearance for quite some time.
Re: . O/T: Its a quality game! ok the controls and acting are a bit dodgy, but its a very cerebral game, the more you play it, the more you notice. I have a very nice Homunculus (spl?) wallpaper for my PC. Back on topic: PS2: ICO boxset (with the postcards), nice card boxes like those detiorate quickly without care XBOX: Is there anything worth buying other than DOAXBV and Panzer Dragoon? quality aside, probably only the Japanese ltd editions and that Steel Battalion with controller. 'Cube: Simpsons Hit and Run (if Sega's lawsuit comes into fruition) PN03 (future cult classic) PSO 1&2 (due to so many being over used for the exploit)
