Pretty handy in countries where you have to fear pickpocketers.

    The fingerprinting.

Before they would let it slide, but now you are supposed to have ID on you 24/7 if you're out. Now they will probably detain / walk you home to get the ID.

I've never had problems, but they seem to be getting more paranoid about "foreigner crime", or should we say chinese / dark skinned people.

Those socks are for extremely old laws. Gaijin have always been required to carry their passport or gaijin card, and they have always stuck to it. If you can speak Japanese, tell them an address, phone number, and are white, you can probably get away with it. Middle eastern, African, or under the weird chance Asian and they spot you? You were (and are) fucked.

Detainment is unlikely. It's really hard to get arrested. They just take you to the station, talk to you, and make a Japanese friend come pick you up. No booking or holding sell. Just a smokey room (been there, done that).

I was in Iranian drug dealer alley once and they had my wife bring the passport down as the hotel was across the street. I had to of course explain why I spoke Japanese but didn't live there, and of course knew that I was supposed to carry my passport but didn't.

    O.k. I'll rephrase it:

To comply with old laws no one cared about until now, with pending detainment if you're chinese or brown.

Heh not to say something too strange/creepy.

My gf has a pair of underware with a little pocket (& zipper) for storing cash in.

I kind of was WTF?!? when I saw them.

A better use for those underwear would be to store a condom. :110:

Damn, that's a good idea.. the sock pocket.

I was at a concert last Friday and those would've greatly helped.

Right, but do they come back? I wouldn't. I'd be taking a nap in the street.

Well in the U.S. before they cracked down on it pretty much people just went to any hotel to do it and just leave after they were done. 1 hour rooms are now a thing of the past.

Love hotels are for consenting couples (although often extra-marital). Prostitution takes place in establishments (or customer's homes) almost always. And if there's no "good old fashioned penetration" then it's not prostitution. Throws a whole new dynamic on the industry.

I've seen motels advertising hourly rates and day time specials in NJ.
