greetings , my sister has a Galaxy S5 and it won't charge when connecting the charger. I have found on ebay replacement charging ports but i think opening the S5 will be a problem.

in the video below in the comments multiple people have had problems after installing the new replacement port. I'm wondering how risky this is and are these comments from morons ? , based on the comments i give this a 10% chance of working.

    chat soon

I can't speak for the S5 but I've done this on several iPhone 4 and 4s with no issues.

Have you tried a standard micro-USB cable? The proprietary connector on the charger facilitates fast charging, but you can plug in a standard micro-USB cable to the larger side of the connector and it will work fine, but it will only charge at about 50% speed.

Mine only came with the proprietary one, and I was surprised to learn that you could use a standalone USB cable. Live and learn :)

Well mine came with a standard micro-usb 2.0 cable.
That port isn't proprietary, it's a standard micro usb 3.0 port.

Lol I didn't realize that was a micro-USB 3.0 port, shows how much I have seen it in the wild. Mine didn't come with a micro-USB 2.0 cable, only the 3.0 one. But yeah a 2.0 cable will work fine.

I'm not sure what the negotiation protocol is for the power states on 3.0, so it may be possible that you are already restricted to 2.0 if there is a bad lead on the left side of the connector. Or it may not work altogether. In any case, I would try a micro-USB 2.0 cable if you haven't already as it could be a cheap fix.

the hardest part of this repair will be taking the lcd off without breaking it
samsung lcds are expensive to replace so beware if your not confident removing lcds
id take it to a repair shop if price is reasonable id still say go for it !
take it slow and dont use metal to pry screen

The s5 LCD Costs $200 AUD.
Use some playing cards and hot air and slowly work off the LCD.
AMOLED is easy to burn so keep that in mind.

If I where you I'd ask Samsung how much to fix, if you are in Australia check which service centre they want you to send it too. Road hound is one of them and frankly one of the crappiest plaes to do so

If you have a home insurance, check if it covers these type of things. In Sweden it's very common for people to have an all inclusive home insurance that even covers user broken electronics, maybe you have something like that too.

Over here most home and contents insurance covers small items, such as phones and usually the excess is $0 to $100
