Can someone please help me out with this. For some reason I can't for the life of me remember how to get my PC and Laptop to open the printer port to communicate with the Saturn via the special link box. Any ideas on how to open them up? The software on the PC side keeps saying it can't open the port. Yakumo
I don't remember how to load the demos either, but my recollection was that it wasn't hard to do. You have to have both a keyboard and a controller plugged in at the same time to access all the menus, if I remember correctly. Maybe the Satakore pages have some sort of handy English reference: http://www.satakore.com/sega-saturn-game,,T-2111G,,Game-Basic-for-SegaSaturn-JPN.html As for parallel port connectivity, what operating system are you using? My memory is a little firmer on this, in that I recall that Windows XP and later abstract the hardware access to a point where the timing is no good for communication with the Saturn. You have to run Win 95, 98 or ME in order to write instructions directly to the parallel bus. Also, you have to have bi-directional communication open, so that both EPP and ECP are turned on. Occasionally, you have to set that in the BIOS on the PC in question. Hope that's helpful.
Thanks guys. I finally remembered how to load the CD software on the Saturn without a keyboard but still having issues with the port. Will check out those links when I get home. Tonight.
If you're using XP or later, Microsoft disabled parallel port access for some reason. You'll need to load the PC application with a program called "PortTalk" to allow it access. :x should have visited UncleJun's post before posting - that app looks like it will do the same thing as PortTalk.
Thanks very much guys. I'm going to give that a try tomorrow. I'm watching Top Gear tonight. This is all for a new project I'm starting under the name of RC SS for YouTube
Really Crap Sega Saturn? (sorry couldn't resist, never use acronyms no one can find the meaning of...)
Don't use the Printer Port. Game Basic uses an old 25pin serial cable. You need an adapter to connect it to the 9pin serial port. http://www.process-informatik.de/im...dapter_COM1-COM2_(25pol.male-9pol.female).png
Ah, mdmx you may have hit the nail right on the head with that. they even show one of those in the manual. I knew I had the software running on XP without any other special software in the past. Thanks so much. Now I need to find my adaptor or buy one. Fingers crossed this will run fine. BTW, WolverineDK you could be right ;-)
