Game Boy Color - No sound at all

Hi,

I picked up a couple non-functional GBC on ebay. Clear and atomic purple Japanese models. I was able to get both going by cleaning out the power switch, however one of them has absolutely no sound. Nothing over headphones or speaker. I already tried swapping the speaker, thinking it was just the speaker which is common, but no go.

What is typically an issue on these? I'm going to swap the caps next, but is there something else on the GBC board that can cause audio to not work at all? Is there a sound chip that is prone to failing at all?

 

I’d sell for parts, or buy one with a bad screen for a board
Could be a bad headphone jack though check that first

 

+1 on the headphone jack as your issue - perhaps cleaning the muting switch will help?
